Judging Restaurants – Sette Osteria

IMG_3418

Sette Osteria is located at 1666 Connecticut Ave, NW. It’s been a while since I’ve posted an Italian spot. You can see menus here. How’s the pizza? Any fans?

I ate there once about three years ago, and it was just OK. Nothing special.

  • jess

nothing special, but a good place to grab a bite if you’re in the area.

  • 'Nonmiss

I was there a few years ago. The pizza was good, but the service was awful.

  • Jon

Sette, good brick oven pizza and homemade pasta’s. Not sure what the people above are talking about.

  • new hampy

I’ve enjoyed the place, particularly the prosciutto pizza and the calamari.

  • 17th & Kenyon

    The Regina pizza is excellent

  • CAHBF

Occasionally I foget how truly bad the service is and I go for their mediocre (but not bad) food. Then I experience the atrocious service and vow never to return. Repeat.

  • brian

So, more or less like the rest of Dupont.

I would go back to try the pizza because the location is just fabulous. Wait til it’s warm and sit on the patio… pretty perfect.

When my boyfriend and I went, I had pasta and he had this breaded chicken dish. My pasta sauce was flavorful (a bit spicy with a straw-shaped pasta) but the pasta was a bit undercooked for my taste. My boyfriend’s breaded chicken was basically just that, with a small fresh tomato salad and a lemon. The lemon was the only thing that gave it any flavor.

That said, looked like there were a lot of regulars, families there, and they all had pizza. Should have taken it from them.

  • So

Not worth it, even for the outdoor seating. The price is a skosh too high for the mediocrity of the food, and the service suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

Avoid it. You can have a better time, in a restaurant with a better vibe and better service, for sure.

TERRIBLE service. never went back. the end.

  • Logan13R

Love the food, especially the pizza, but other items as well. I have also always had fantastic service. I try never to go on Friday or Saturday evenings though, as it gets way too crowded and I don’t like waiting forever for a table. My biggest complaint is that they don’t take reservations, even for large groups.

  • Sunny

I’ve been there a number of times and have always had pasta dishes which have been quite tasty. I’ve never had a problem with the service but then I’ve rarely gone on a weekend. It’s a great place to meet up with a small group of friends for a weekday drink & dinner.

  • KStreetQB

Decent food. Servers acts like they are doing you a favor. Won’t go back.

  • Logan Girl

    Great deal for Happy Hours!

I’ve been there twice, once with a genuine Florentine from Italy and once with an American who’s spent enough time in Italy to be fluent in the language. We all agreed that, while you can get even better in Baltimore, let alone Florence, it’s pretty decent for DC Italian. The service was friendly and efficient both times; maybe we just lucked out.

  • m.e.

I can’t believe the comments. Sette is my very favorite restaurant in Dupont, and I’ve been going there for years. The service has always been warm and friendly, and I adore the pizza (and everything else). Plus, they have the very best cosmos in DC. My goodness….

  • second that me.too

I can’t agree more with m.e. above; I adorn the place. The food and the drinks are superb to say the least. It’s not a five star restaurant nor do they tout it as that; it’s a local hang-out and certainly improves the neighborhood. Perhaps all the negative naysayers should quit their government jobs and take a risk on opening up their own businesses then you all can congregate and come up with a business plan that’s perfect or at least as you all think it should be. What’s the matter too risky for ya? Or didn’t you all take your meds…You folks should be ashamed of all your negative attitudes give these type businesses take major risks financially to make our neighborhoods flourish and our property values rise. Or are you just a life-time renter and envious of your lack thereof ambition. Cheers!
