Worn Magazine is DC based print magazine, blog and website about DC’s fashion, art and style. The first issue comes out in April. You can order a copy here. From Worn Magazine’s mission statement:
Worn Magazine is a DC born publication intended to bring greater awareness of DC fashion and art to the District and the nation. It is our mission to advocate the importance of style and art in the community by producing a printed hardcopy magazine that encourages readers to use both as a means of creativity and self-expression. We believe these mediums have the ability to showcase what people have in common, rather than what divides them. By partnering with local artists and promoting local businesses, we strive to make DC a more style- and art-conscious city with a wider acceptance of various forms of personal creativity.

Wow, this is huge news. Alero currently has three locations in Cleveland Park, Dupont and in U Street. The space where Alero is moving into was formerly the home of Rumberos which after some confusion actually did close in Sept. ’09.
I called the U Street Alero location and they confirmed to me that indeed they will be opening another location in the Tivoli at 3345 14th St, NW. They hope to open some time in April. Thanks to a reader for the tip and stay tuned for more details as they become available. In the meantime you can see their current menus here. Think this is a good fit for the location?

I think I’ve seen more signs like this in Mt. Pleasant than in any other neighborhood. Do you think it is because it is a bigger problem in Mt. Pleasant or because some Mt. P residents are more vocal?

I wanted to share a rendering I received of The Crest condos coming to 3517 13th St, NW. It is nice to see this building start to get some love. When completed there will be 9 units. Here’s what it looks like now:
Ed. Note: Urban Pace, an advertiser with PoP, represents sales for The Crest.

Back in December I asked if was time for the Code Pink shoe memorial to be removed due to its condition. At the time there were, not surprisingly, mixed opinions. Well, walking down 14th Street last weekend I noticed that the memorial was no longer there.
We’re not quite ready for garden of the day yet but like I said yesterday some flowers were definitely starting to represent. Sadly, I don’t know the name of these either. But I did think it was pretty cool how there was one yellow that was sorta breaking the trend in this group.

This could very well be the greatest HoTD I’ve ever seen. Definitely the greatest in Mt. Pleasant. It is from Oakwood Terrace. Check out the Details:
One more angle of the entire house after the jump. (more…)

A reader wrote in saying that it closed rather abruptly. I walked by this weekend to snap a photo and saw some permits in the window. It said the proposed use will continue to be a restaurant. Does anyone know if it will remain Jack’s or become a new restaurant?

I think they look pretty sweet. Certainly better than the previous concrete. And somebody mentioned in the comments last week about the abrupt stoppage just short of Newton:
Mark me down on the side that thinks it should be completed all the way to the corner.

This apartment is located at 3811 Porter Street, NW:
The Craigslist ad says:
“Spacious studio apartment with wooded views, full kitchen, full bath, separate office space, and separate storage space. New stove, refrigerator, HVAC, and washer/dryer. Wall-to-wall carpeting and cable. Wonderful community walking distance to shops, restaurants, movies, grocery store, metro and metrobus. Includes membership to swimming pools and tennis courts. Pets welcome.”
More info about McLean Gardens here.
Given the weather this past weekend I was drawn by the swimming pool. Does $1300 sound reasonable?

“Dear PoP,
My husband owned his house before I moved into it two years ago and in the four years we’ve been together I have been in the backyard a total of 1 time and that’s because one of my cats slipped out there. It’s a very small space (the size of a bedroom maybe) but it could be a nice little spot for a morning coffee or an evening beer with a little bit of spitshine.
I’ve asked him to lay down some pavers but, it’s four years now, I have to accept it ain’t happening. LOL! Do you and your readers have any suggestions for a landscaper that can help us improve our backyard space?
P.S. I lean toward pavers because I have never seen a blade of grass out there (I do stare longingly at the yard from time to time even tho I refuse to step foot out there) and he says he thinks that the person who renovated buried some material under the earth back there or something as grass just doesn’t seem to take root and grow.”
I’m also curious how much you think it would cost to have a landscaper set pavers?
