Thanks to David for sending these photos from Marilyn Feldman, Public Relations Director for the current Hebrew Home in Maryland. As mentioned yesterday we previously had a discussion of the Hebrew Home here. The photo above was taken in 1953 and the photo below was taken in 1925.
Ojo Latino is a series by Néstor Sánchez Cordero. Nestor writes, “This week the Ojo Latino went to the Immigration Reform March on Sunday in the National Mall to try to capture the different faces of the Latino community in this country. People came from all over the US to try to push Congress to discuss immigration reform and stop the raids that have separated so many families in the last years. I know the immigration debate is controversial, I hope these faces put a human touch on the issue.”
Many more photos after the jump. (more…)

As promised two more interesting doors from Bloomingdale Court. Sorry the one below is a bit blurry the two images on the actual door are monkey faces.

This great carriage house is from the brand new Bloomingdale Court. This is my favorite house from the group but I’m gonna show a couple more doors for Door of the Day (above).

I always wondered how Oya’s Mini Bazaar was able to stay in business at 2420 18th St NW. Though they had some very good reviews on Yelp. Neighboring African Art & Unique Gifts is also for lease.
And a bit further north on 18th Street, NW it looks like the former CD/Game Exchange might be finally undergoing some renovations. Stay tuned for updates as they become available on all three spaces.

Back in August ’08 I nominated The Celsius as possibly the the worst name for a condo building.
I’m sad to report that a new building has gone in next door at 2650 15th Street, NW called the Fahrenheit. (Though I think the building looks pretty nice.) You can see a couple of units for sale here and here.
Can The Kelvin be far behind…?

“Dear PoP,
Got a question for your blog readers….We need to change a 2nd story door (on to what had been a deck) into a window, but have no money for a contractor….Any advice or helpful people out there? We can buy the material – or at least what we think we need – but we’re not sure we can do a good/effective job. The other windows in the house have come from Home Depot, so that’s not a concern. What has me puzzled is how to get the wall beneath the window up to the 18″ thickness of the brick used in the rest of the wall. Cinder blocks? Wood framing with a brick layer? Help?”

This apartment is located at 3540 Rock Creek Church Rd NW:
The Craigslist ad says:
“This beautiful one bedroom condo is located in Columbia Heights, NW, Washington DC; including: Hardwood floors, full granite countertops kitchen, Stainless Steel appliances (dishwasher, gas stove/oven, microwave, fridge), Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, marble floor with stainless steel fixtures, washer & dryer in unit, and cable/internet ready. Private off-street parking space AVAILABLE and negotiable. Utilities; Gas, water, and garbage fee included in rent. Condo is walking distance to two DC metro stations (Green line only 2 blocks away), Metro bus (in front of the building), and only 5 to 10 minutes by car to Down Town DC. PERFECT LOCATION…”
Does $1750 sound reasonable for a 1 bedroom in this location?

“Dear PoP,
I hope you or your readers can help me solve a mystery. I live a block from the Paul Robeson School of Growth and Development on Spring Road in Columbia Heights/Petworth. I believe it used to serve children with fairly intense social and emotional disabilities, but in the 4+ years I’ve lived nearby, I’ve never seen anyone enter or exit. None of my neighbors know anything about it, and I haven’t been able to find any recent information online. What’s the scoop? Is the school still open?”
Dang, I know we talked about this once back in the day but I can’t seem to find it. Anyone remember what the is the situation with these buildings?
Not be mistaken with the nearby former Jewish home for the aged.

Madame Meow got this great shot of the acrobats above. As I’ve noted, the flowers have seriously begun to represent. Below’s great shot was taken by fromcaliw/love.
Submit your photos via email or to the PoPville flickr pool here.
Finally this amazing shot was taken by K’s Clicks.

This house is located at 630 15th Street, NE:
The flier says:
“Gorgeous Top to Bottom Renovation of Capitol Hill Classic. Ten foot ceilings, gleaming new hardwoods, new kitchen with granite and stainless, new bathrooms, new roof and HVAC. Fresh landscaping and new rear deck. One block from H St. revitalization. This property will not last long.”
You can find more info and photos here.
As always, what do you think of the renovation itself? Does $449,900 sound reasonable for this 3 bed/2.5 bath?

We first learned of this great name back in August ’09. Now that it’s been open a bit I’m wondering what folks think of the food? While I’m curious about the kabob, I’m equally curious about the pizza. Anyone check them out yet?

Street Films writes:
“The district DOT has redesigned 15th Street NW between U Street and Massachusetts Avenue to accommodate two-way bike traffic on a one-way street. Northbound cyclists get a shared lane moving in the same direction as car traffic, and southbound cyclists ride in a parking-protected lane. The treatment has also slimmed down the street, removing a vehicle lane and calming traffic.”
However, I (as well as Borderstan) have noticed that many bikers are actually going the wrong way on the one-way lane.
So how for those who use this lane – how’s it working it out? What do you do when a biker is coming at you in the wrong direction? Is there enough room to pass each other or does somebody have to yield?
