You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this week?

Had some extra time this morning so stopped by Qualia on my way in – yum! And it seems like it’s doing well, hope that’s the case. What a great little spot.

Little dog took a giant stinky poop on my rug this morning. Guess I wasn’t moving fast enough.
Rain is good but makes me want to take a nap.

Rant: I haven’t had sex in what seems like weeks, please god, help me! Or maybe just a freakin’ babysitter to watch the kids once in a while!
Rave: Bulbs popping up all around, warm rain, birds, few/no skeeters yet. Springtime, ahhh….

Would it kill us to plant some trees on the Mall? I never liked the look of that place (or the unrelenting sun) and I think that lining the area with trees would be a great idea. Or, for that matter, maybe we could fill certain areas along the Mall with trees?
Any takers?

There used to be trees on the mall! Many of them were cut down after the McMillian commission proposals of 1901-1902. Go look at the two models of the mall at the National Building Museum. It’s too bad, I agree it would be better with more shade…

My clothes dont fit anymore. steady diet of Godsmack and pushups. A buddy just stopped by and gave me some toothbrushes. nothing is strange anymore.
the walls and ceilings are white.
the rug and doors are white.
the fixtures and appliances are white.

RG: Keep pushing, man. I remember staring at the ceiling all night waiting until 5am when the gym/pool would open up just to have something to do.
Drew: I don’t like.
Last night’s Pink Tie Party to Benefit the Cherry Blossom Parade (or whatever) was a ton of fun. Also, if you haven’t been to the rooftop bar at the W, there is a fantastic view of the WH and the monuments on the mall.
12 March 2010 2:25 PM | rg Said:
thanks ragged
12 March 2010 2:12 PM | GiantSquid Said:
rg, have you considered adopting a dog? Maybe an older one that is more likely to be potty trained so they white rug won’t suffer too much.
There are times I like my dogs more than I like my husband.

Rave: finally going to get my yard done up all pretty! It is going to be nice to not have the ugliest yard on the block.
Drew: ditto on the trees

RG: please give summary of breakup…somehow did not read abt it when it happened…it’ll be okay. time heals all wounds.
Rant: I wish PoP would stick to the Pop area and not venture out to Cap Hill. I could care less about CP and i work in that neighborhood.
Rant: I have a stomach ache and headache…just put me out of my misery now!

People used to yell at me for posting about Columbia Heights…
12 March 2010 2:07 PM | Kalorini Said:
PoP, let your feet take you wherever you choose! For as many people that complain, there are just as many that appreciate your efforts to make this a relevant DC blog–all neighborhoods with all their angles. Thank you!

Rant: If my stupid, lameass company didn’t have such lousy benefits, I would be in Spain right now. I have nearly no paid time off left (had two take 4 days without pay during the snow) and no time to travel.
Rave: Gig tomorrow night, and if it doesn’t rain this weekend I’m taking my bike off the trainer and hitting the trails again.

Rant: Was supposed to visit friends and do archery but it’s raining. Third time this event’s been moved due to crappy weather.
Rave: If I’m stuck inside, I might as well paint some walls. Maybe even put up a medicine chest in our bathroom.
Rave 2: Great tax returns this year.
Rant 2: Mr. Squid wants to be responsible and save it.

Rave – I had my dangerous tree cut down just a week before all the snow! So now I have a nice long-handled tree-pruner and no tree to prune, so if anyone needs to borrow it – well, I don’t know how you would get in touch actually. . .
OH yes I do – I have a parking space to rent posted on Craigslist so search under parking for Columbia Heights $100. (Irving & 14th) and email me through there.
Rant – been looking to buy a ping pong table but most of them are in strange distant suburb lands and people are too dumb to even post photos on CL. Went to see one today in DC at an overpriced estate sale and it was warped and covered in mildew and bits kept falling off.
12 March 2010 2:23 PM | Kate Said:
POP–please keep posting beyond Petworth! I moved out of the neighborhood to the SW, and I still enjoy your blog, but its especially nice when you touch on stuff near my neighborhood! (the SW neighborhood blog is not as nice, so don’t go judging)
12 March 2010 2:30 PM | Prince Of Petworth Said:
Thanks Kate and Kalorini. Don’t worry I love finding new things to post about from all over the city including areas outside NW. It’s the only way I can have between 15-20 posts a day!

Anyone have an idea about why there was a news team by the Giant in Columbia Heights this morning around 9:30? I saw some yellow tape around the ATM there. Hoping that the yellow tape was just for construction and the news crew was reporting on something like a delicious new cupcake flavor at the Giant…

Duke, that might have been due to the attempted armored car robbery:

12 March 2010 3:38 PM | DukeofMonroe Said:
Thanks briefly. Guess it wasn’t about the cupcakes…
Hot tip for the cops investigating this one. Those robbers must have been from Maryland. Every DC driver knows it takes about half an hour to move a block at that intersection during rush hour…

Or they live around the corner…

Rave: I’m super impressed with DC City Services. Last night I was standing on my porch THINKING, “I should call the city to see if they would plant a tree along the street in from of the house” and this afternoon there’s a new tree planted there! They must be using clairvoyance technologies, like in the movie Minority Report.
