What the Helen of Troy is This?

Tackle Box to Open Second Location in the old Waffle Shop (522 10th Street, NW)

DSCN2083

This is great timing as I was just asking a friend of mine what was going on with the old Waffle House located near E Street Cinema. Ed. Note: We saw An Education which I thought was terrific. I received an email update from the Downtown BID today with the news. They write:

Look for the old Waffle House (522 10th Street) to become the second DC location for Tackle Box, a Pure Hospitality Restaurant Group lobster shack. Located across from Ford’s Theatre (511 10th Street), the Waffle House offered steaks, grilled chicken and pork chops for breakfast, in addition to waffles, hot cakes and French toast. A different aroma will waft through the 10th Street corridor once Tackle Box, a casual sustainable seafood option, opens this fall and begins serving wood-grilled fish, crispy oysters, lobster rolls and other fare.

We judged the Georgetown location of Tackle Box here.

As a Waffle House connoisseur, I can assure you that the place at 522 10th Street was not a Waffle House (if only)…it was instead the Waffle Shop. This may seem picky to some of you, but when you grow up in southern Alabama, your Waffle House allegiances run deep.

I went to Tacklebox once and i think there’s myriad other restaurants that would be better. I’d like to be wrong and be told to go back and try again, but I’ve heard from many others that their small piece of fried fish for 14 dollars was uninspired and unremarkable. Take me to Arthur Treacher’s instead.

Just want to remind everybody that the Waffle Shop merged with another place and is now a few doors down, dba Lincoln’s Waffle Shop. It’s one of the few places that I know of to get scrapple on this side of town.

Yay. No need to drive go to G-town for Tackle box anymore. Now I can take the Greenline. Yummy.

I work at Ford’s and I for one can’t wait for a new option for lunch with designers.

The facade for the Waffle Shop (especially the neon) is one of the coolest in the city- I hope the new tackle box doesnt ruin it!
