Free in DC: Things to do Tonight – Sunday!

Tonight…
You can head over to view vintage war posters at the Memorial Day Art Opening at The Corner Store near Eastern Market from 6-8pm. Mix it up a bit and support ROC DC at their Asian themed Mixology Party at their downtown office from 6-9pm, drinks and food included with $10 – $15 donation. Enjoy a Free Improv Show from the new troupe, 3rd Beat, at BloomBars tonight from 8:30-11pm. In the mood for art? The Phillips Collection is open til 8:30pm and donation based on Thursday nights if you want to just view the permanent collection and they stay open ’til 8:30pm.

During the day this weekend…

This Saturday from 10am-4pm is the last chance you’ll have to view two excellent Arts Exhibitions at the Mexican Cultural Institute, Elizabeth Catlett in Mexico and Shouts from the Archive. It’s also the last weekend to Visit the National Museum of Women in the Arts for Free so if you haven’t been there before, now is a great time to check it out. This is the last weekend to view The Sacred Made Real exhibit on view at the National Gallery of Art, where you can also enjoy a Free Film about Chopin on Saturday at 1pm. The NGA will also host a Gallery Talk on Saturday and Sunday at 2pm  In Memory of Sandro Botticelli. Have kids? Check out the Postal Museum’s “Pens and the Post” free special event from 11am-5pm on Saturday. On Saturday from 2-3pm in Dupont Circle, you can attend an Artist Talk at the Hillyer with Valentine Wolly and see her show, Flipped, before it leaves. Every Sunday from Noon-3pm enjoy a free Indian Meal with “Karma Kitchen”. This Sunday at 3pm there will also be a Free Open Rehearsal for Mrs. Warren’s Profession at The Shakespeare Theatre!

At night this weekend…

This Friday night kicks-off the First “Jazz in the Garden” Concert of the season and will feature a female bebop artist on the mic, inspired by the current Beat Memories exhibit now on view at the NGA. The free concerts will be held every Friday night from 5-8:30pm at the National Gallery of Art’s Modern Sculpture Garden by the big fountain now – September 10th. Enjoy Free Wine Tastings at Zola Wine and Kitchen every Friday from 5-7pm. Attend a Poetry Open Mic & Performance by DC’s Southern Fried Poetry Slam Team at The Corner Store on Friday at 8pm, $10 suggested donation on Friday night or head over to Rosslyn for a Free Outdoor Film Screening of Happy Gilmore at dusk. This Saturday night you can hear some live music and support a great cause at OmegaBand CD Release & Benefit for Miriam’s Kitchen at Velvet Lounge from 9pm-2am, cover is $10. On Sunday night if you want to be there live, you can head over to the National Memorial Day Concert at The US Capitol West Lawn for their free concert, or you can watch it on PBS at home. Gates at 5pm, Concert 8-9:30pm. Every Sunday evening you meditate with the IMCW Meditation Group at All Souls at 6pm for a dhana, donation, based class. You can also head over to BloomBars for their weekly “Seed the Sound Sundays” with live musical acts from 8-10:30pm in an intimate environment, donations encouraged.
