“For the film lovers in DC that read your blog, I wanted to let you know that June 18th will mark the start of the 15th annual “Made in Hong Kong Film Festival” cosponsored by the Smithsonian’s Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery (1050 Independence Avenue SW) and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO).
This year, there will be eight films featured during the festival, led by John Woo’s epic “Red Cliff,” which has never been shown in commercial theaters in the U.S. The two-part, five-hour-long film depicts the Battle of Red Cliff, one of the most famous events in Chinese history. In fact, the battle is depicted in several artworks in the Freer and Sackler collections.
