Horse’s Ass Award – Daisy Building

As previously noted, I’m a huge fan of the painting but it’s time this property has been called out. It’s been boarded up for as long as I can remember. It’s located on 7th and L St, NW near the Convention Center.

So how exactly does this work, one guy/company buys up all sorts of vacant properties and then just lets them sit until he/they can get top dollar? I’m not trying to be a jerk, I’m genuinely asking if that is what happens? I’m not a communist or anything, I just can’t stand all these vacant boarded up buildings… Do you think the current system is working well? If not what changes (besides tax rates) can/should be implemented?

This Can’t Be Good

This is my beloved mulberry tree. Well, half beloved. When she drops berries all over my yard and stairs for two or three weeks, we’re not the best of friends. But now, I’m very worried. What the hell is this? Have you ever seen a huge branch just start to split like this? Do you think it was struck by lightening? What do you think caused this? Do I have to get the whole branch removed?

“Dear PoP,

This happened on Sunday June 20th, the owner is a local D.C. business owner in Shaw/Convention Center area, he was at home Sunday, called for his dog to go outside at about 4 p.m, she did not respond at that point. The house is on Bates Street NW, right off Florida Avenue and North Capitol. She was not wearing her collar but she does have a microchip. He said it is not like his dog to run away and he fears someone may have taken her for dog fighting purposes.

Her name is Chloe Moo Moo Poundcake, she is a pitbull around 2 years old and spayed, she was adopted from the D.C American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Judging New Homes and a little Scuttlebutt on 4200 block of 7th St, NW

Looks like a nice new (or serious renovation) single family home is nearing completion the 4200 block of 7th St, NW. I’ll be sure to show the after pictures when it’s all finished.

And of particular interest to neighbors who live nearby is the old boarded up apartment building located at the corner of 7th and Varnum Streets, NW. This is the apartment building that was abruptly boarded up back in Oct. ’09. A source tells me that this property has been sold or is very close to selling. I’m not sure if the building will be demoed or renovated, so stay tuned for details/movement on that property in the future.

Dear PoP – Spanish Tutors? Tennis Anyone?

“Dear PoP,

I’m looking for beginner Spanish lessons in the DC area. I think I’m leaning toward one-on-one or small group sessions, but am on a budget. I was wondering if any of your readers had recommendations.”

and

“Dear PoP,

I recently moved to the neighborhood and I’m looking for a tennis court with a practice wall.”

I know there are tennis courts at the Raymond Recreation Center located at 915 Spring Rd., NW by the Petworth Metro but I’m not sure if they have a wall. Anyone know if they have a wall as well? Also Banneker also has a number of tennis courts at the 2800 block of Georgia Ave, NW. But I’m also not sure if they have a wall. Anyone know?

Anyone know how to find reasonably priced Spanish tutoring?

It’s funny I was going to Re-PoP this carriage house this week because I was going through carriage house withdrawal and in a random search it came up for sale. It’s yours for $3,995,000.
