“Dear PoP,
My neighbor has a beautiful 7yr old pitbull named Adam that needs a home asap! The dog is sweet, passive, friendly, and loves belly rubs and children.
My neighbor agreed to watch the dog after a friend lost her home and had to move to a place that doesn’t accept pets. She doesn’t want to send the dog to the pound, so we’re hoping you can post these pics to see if anyone is interested. (Responsible pet owners only. No dog fighters!)
Her number is 202-641-5141. Interested pet lovers should give her a call this week to set up a time to meet Adam. She lives on New Hampshire, just past Grant Circle.”
In yesterday’s coolest pet in PoPville post a reader asked about adopting a pet. If anyone else is looking…

Yesterday when I first wrote about the Road Tattoo on the 800 block of Vermont Ave, NW, I asked if any readers worked up high at the Veteran’s Affairs Building. Ask and you shall receive.
“From 7th floor VA building…”

Thanks to a reader for sending in this great beauty:
“This is the newly rehabbed back patio of a Shaw house I’ve lived in since 1998.”
And this would also make for a great ‘judging backs of rowhouses’, sweet:

After the jump see before photos! (more…)

“Dear PoP,
I saw this frame made of yarn on Mt. Pleasant St. NW near Irving, I thought you might like it. It is crazy detailed and awesome looking.”
Fantastic! I wonder if it was done by the same folks who gave us the Knit Graffiti (also from Mt. Pleasant).

“This my favorite view in our garden. Not very expansive, but pretty. I was going to send a more general picture, but it seems there’s a campaign sign in every picture I’ve taken recently…”
It’s beautiful, nicely done!
If you have a nice garden, a great spot for a morning cup of coffee or just a particularly good looking tomato please send a photo to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com.

I know I get scolded for liking these vines but what can I say, I like these vines.

Wow, it’s been fun speculating about what’s going in this space that used to be 100% Mexico years ago. Diamond District got us excited but turned out to be a tease. But now Metrocurean tweeted this weekend:
“Jeff Black (BlackSalt, Black’s, etc) is looking into 1612 14th St. for a new seafood restaurant, the Dupont Current reports. (Yay!)”
I don’t get the Dupont Current but I was just planning on visiting BlackSalt so I take that as a very good omen! Stay tuned as details emerge.

Back in March we heard that proposals were being looked at for 1421 Euclid St, NW. Dante Partners (the folks that showed us the Vida Senior Residences in Brightwood last week.) was selected.
I’ll be sure to update with photos as the project progresses.

Ed. Note: The deadline has passed for entries, we got over 300! If you missed the deadline, save your shots for next year, sorry no exceptions. I will be posting initial entries for 2 more weeks or so before the semifinal rounds commence. Remember if you have a favorite please let me know. If you emailed a photo of your pet I promise all photos will be posted, patience please, there are tons (literally hundreds) of pets in PoPville!

Goblin
“Goblin on his perch. My little buddy Goblin is a 2 year old French Bulldog who likes to plant himself on the front porch to greet passersby as they stroll down Harvard St. Although he is not quite as famous as Paul the Octopus, he correctly predicted Spain to win the World Cup as well.”

Mo
“This is Mo hanging out in his favorite chair.”

“These are my snow loving guinea pigs, Gideon (left) and Torpedo (right).”
Lots more great entries after the jump. (more…)

I like the proximity to Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park. What do you guys think – does $1325 sound reasonable for this efficiency?

“Dear PoP,
I am a potential first time home buyer that found a place I love on the 2900 block of Sherman ave. However, my concern is that it is over-priced and that the area is neither aesthetically pleasing or safe at this time. As this is the biggest purchase of my young life, I want to make sure anything I do is well thought out. Therefore, and although you may be biased, what are your thoughts on making huge investments in this area (to the tone of $390K)? What do you think the impact will be of the Sherman ave. reconstruction? Do you think said construction well be completed as envisioned in the design phase? Anything else you would like to add would be extremely helpful. One last thought, I am a male in my mid-20’s, and in more than one discussion since contemplating this purchase I have heard something to this effect “a male living in this area equals OK, but don’t even think about getting a female roommate or having a girlfriend over because it is still that unsafe.”
I’m one of the folks who believes that Sherman Ave has huge potential. If I were looking to buy a home now I would not hesitate to buy there, knowing that it will take a number of years before it reaches its potential. But like others have said, I like the proximity to 11th St, NW and all it has to offer. I’ll let the folks who live there discuss the safety issues. Good luck!

DC’s Commission on the Arts tells us:
“As part of Mayor Adrian M. Fenty’s ongoing efforts to advance arts in the District of Columbia, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) selected Steed Taylor to paint a road tattoo entitled “Daughters and Sons Knot”. Mr. Taylor’s design highlights Washington DC’s relationship with war and loss by honoring metropolitan area soldiers recently killed while serving their country. The names of those soldiers’ children will be incorporated in the design. The design is a complex Celtic Knot with 6 loops, a symbolic number for harmony and alluding to the interdependence within a community as well as a family. The road tattoo is approximately 60 feet wide and 300 feet long and made with the help of local volunteers and neighbors.”

If anyone works at the Dept of Veterans Affairs, send a photo from an upper floor!

This condo is located at 1731 1st St, NW:
The flier says:
“Larger than most row houses, this unit oozes space, style and luxury from every square foot. Three large bedrooms, 3 baths and a den complement a huge luxury kitchen, and an enviable location near Metro, Big Bear and Windows cafes, and easy access to all DC neighborhoods. This condo is not yet registered with D. C. ; owner can accept only reservation agreements at this time.”
You can find more info here and a virtual tour here.
What do you think of the reno itself? Unit #2 has gone under contract and was listed at $495,000. Should there be any concern that the condo is not yet registered? Unit #1 is going for $459,900, sound realistic?
