To help select the Dog finalists I enlisted the aid Nichole, former PoP contributor and Fundraising and Outreach Chair of the Board of Directors of Hill Hounds, the official “friends of” group of the soon-to-be-constructed Kingsman Field Dog Park on Capitol Hill. Thanks to all who sent in photos of their dogs. There is a no doubt that they were a super cool bunch this year. Believe me selecting semifinalists was nearly an impossible task (Nichole selected 5 and I selected 5). But at the end of the day, it’s just a fun summer pet contest so let’s remember to vote honestly. If the poll is tampered with your pet will be disqualified. Voting will be open until Friday.
Photos after the jump.

Ruby
“Ruby is not only a fan of crawfish, but knows how to properly pick them up.”

Carlos

Bug
“This is Bug, and despite the pout, she loves everyone and everything. She’s only sad because she’s not currently romping through Meridian Hill Park, our favorite place in D.C. Like her people, Bug is originally from Alabama, so this summer heat thing is no sweat.”

Bolt
“My name is Bolt. I’m a bearded collie currently residing in Logan Circle. I love long walks, car rides, homemade dog suppers, and all my friends at doggie daycare. This pic was taken earlier this month during my trip to Cape Cod.”

Grover
“Meet Grover–he’s pretty new to PoPville, having just been adopted a month ago. He’s already making himself at home in my laundry.”

Captain America
“This is Captain America, Trivial Pursuit master extraordinaire. Sometimes he gets a little impatient when you take too long to answer.”

Winny
“Name: Winny Foote; Looking For: Friendship, Snacks; Birthday: February 22, 2010; Current City: Washington, D.C.; Employer: I’m a lady who lunches; Likes & Interests: Mr. Fox, belly scratches, PoP, tinkling on Mimi’s rugs (she gets so mad!), ice cubes, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, socks, Biz Markie, day-dreaming the day away, chillin’ with Carter, the good life…”

Truvy
“This is my 9 month old Cream Frenchie named Truvy. She is gonna be the Hostess at Logan 14 Aveda Salon and Spa when I open the end of August.”

Myrtle
“Myrtle is from Columbia Heights. She loves Malcolm X Park and people.”

Charlie
“This is Charlie my Capitol dog. Go him from local rescue about 5 years ago. He’s my early morning walking buddy – I have pictures of him all over DC!”

Dizzy
“Dizzy is a 3 year-old boxer mix with a funky white star on his chest. Though originally a stray puppy from Raleigh, North Carolina, his jazz-inspired name (after Dizzy Gillespie) and obvious star power make him a perfect fit here in DC.”

Mara
“She is a Catahoula Leopard Dog and is just as cool as her name is. Everyone is always stunned by her beautiful markings and different colored eyes. On top of that she is super smart and incredibly sweet, loving all humans and animals. She was rescued from a pound in West Virginia and is about 7 months old.”

Goblin
“Goblin on his perch. My little buddy Goblin is a 2 year old French Bulldog who likes to plant himself on the front porch to greet passersby as they stroll down Harvard St. Although he is not quite as famous as Paul the Octopus, he correctly predicted Spain to win the World Cup as well.”

Lucy
“This is Lucy. It’s possible that she’s half ewok.”

Sadie
“This is Sadie, she’s a 7 year old Jack Russell who was rescued this year from the DC Humane Society. She lost her eye to glaucoma, it got infected while she was stray and was too bad to treat. But don’t worry, she’s happy and doesn’t seem to notice, except when she runs into things.”

Oh my gosh. It is completely unrecognizable! Look at that ceiling!
Damn! Could be turned into a night club on the weekends.
Dislike. x10000000
Make it stop - who wrote the listing description for that house? What the hell does it...
Sad day…where’s Una or Wallace? Mara FTW
the Fenty ads are ruining it for me.
GOBLIN!!!!!!!!!!
Where is Seymour! He had a bunch of votes!
Goblin looks just like the deaf doorknocker in Labyrinth! You know the one. “No good **siff** can’t hear you.”
He’s adorable!
yes!!
I love Charlie!!!!
Myrtle. Love her tongue!
You got to vote for Myrtle representing Col. Heights / Petworth at Malcolm-X Park!
I love Charlie! He’s very funny and probably doesn’t realize he’s not a human being – but a dog. Go Charlie!
Bug – definately.
Frank got robbed
All the dogs are super cute, but I have to say that Winny is my winner. I think she is the best combo of spunk and adorableness (not sure if adorableness is a real word, but if it is, it would describe that cute little beast!).
A few other comments:
* I like the fact that Sadie is just rockin’ out with one eye. You go girl!
* Carlos has some hops!
* Can the owner of Grover please confirm that he is alive at the time the time of the picture? Kidding. Grover looks like a cute little prankster.
But back to my winner: WINNY!!! WINNY!!!
I vote for WINNY! What a cutie!
I voted for Goblin simply because he reminds me of Droopy, and I like Droopy.
Dizzy!
yay, dizzy!
Dizzy – That picture is so great.
Go Dizzy Go!
the answer to this is Kava, who seems to be missing from the poll. PoP, you need to fix this error as Kava is truly the coolest pet in Petworth and i bet none of these other dogs can compare. if you don’t, you better familiarize.
captain america!
LUCY. its all Lucy.
this isn’t a charity case…or a competition about who is the hippest hipster. let’s not all start letting a sob story about a one-eyed dog (who didn’t even have the guts to lose it in a fight or something) or someone playing the “shelter” card sway our votes.
this is america! where winners are decided by who can email more friends to vote for their pet.
don’t get me wrong, i love rescue pets too…but you ain’t gonna see them taking home best in show at westminster…and there’s a damn good reason for that!
at least there are no dogs in costumes this year…that’s as cheap as removing your dog’s eye for sympathy votes.
can i get an amen!
So you mean vote for “purebred” dogs who are bred for their looks so much so that they have to be born by C-section because they are too inbred to be born naturally? Or maybe you should vote on how much the owner paid for said dog…
you have lost your eye for sarcasm. the original post is absolutely dripping with it. it is a ridiculous post from start to finish and you should be ashamed of yourself for taking it seriously and letting it upset you. take another look at the adorable doggies, breathe deep, count to ten…
Ah I see. Thanks for the sarcasm, then. Not ashamed, or upset, though. Maybe that is how the Jack Russell lost its eye? I kid.
Amen, brotha’! I think my one-eyed python is beautiful as well, but the cops tell me it is illegal to show it in public. Sorry everyone.
RUBY! RUBY! RUBY!
Truvy is adorable! C’mon people!
Whoo hoo!
Truvy!!
winny all the way. all the dogs are cute, but i really dont think they compare. winny looks adorable
Go Diz!!!
I vote winny!
Where are the pugs this year!?
But I vote for Goblin! Go Gobbers!
Truvy!!! How can you not pick that face!!
Cute dogs, but none in the snow, commemorating our historic winter?
Kava was robbed man…
winny or charlie!!
thanks for posting these pics all summer pop! definitely fun!!
Do any of these dogs actually live in Petworth?
Mara! Mara! Mara!
They are all so adorable – it’s too hard to choose!!!
Truvy!!!
Truvy!!!!
Goblin is the man!!!!!!!!
Myrtle is the coolest!
Wow, Carlos that pic is intense and beautiful. He deserves a BIG nod.
No Pits, what a shame.
C’mon, people. Ruby has freaking crawfish legs hanging out her freaking mouth. That expression is priceless.
I vote for Mara and her sassy pose!
Mara for the win!!!
Mara is Love.
Winny all the way! That pup is AWESOME! I give love to Sadie too. But, my vote goes to Winny!
Winny for the win!
