Judging Buildings – 1st, NE in NoMa

Above is the building that will also house the Harris Teeter located at 1st and M St, NE (same building as the Potbellys).

And on a side note, I couldn’t believe how many new gigantic glass buildings there were on 1 St, NE. And more were going up. It’ll be interesting to see how fast these fill up.

But back to the original question, what do you think about the building in the first photo – thumbs up or down? Or neutral?

DC needs more balconies and places for apartment and condo dwellers to BBQ.

Are we not the south? Well Mid-Atlantic but I like to grill anyway.

Isn’t it illegal in DC to have a grill on an apartment balcony?

      • Anonymous

is it? in a steel and concrete building?

        • ro

Depends. The fire code is about proximity. So larger balconies where the grill can be placed far away from the structure are ok. But most buildings have smaller shallower balconies that wouldn’t be able to comply with the codes. Either way its never a good idea to set up a grill too close to the house, whether it be an apartment unit or single family home.

Too bad none of these buildings have a lot of (or any) tenants.

  • johnkin

A ton of birds are going to fly into that one reflective building.

the building in the first picture is great.
the building in the 3rd picture is horrible.

Give it time. This part of town might be pretty in cool in a couple of years.

    • Anonymous

it will never be cool, but it will be bustling and active, and good for dc coffers.

while mixed use, this is a neighborhood for the suit and tie set.

      • Anonymous

If you want urban and cool you can go 6 blocks to the West to Chinatown. If you want gritty and cool you can go 8 blocks East to H St/Atlas District.

But, very nice to have some life in that previously desolate area.

LOVE constitution square. That is going to be the game changer for NoMa finally feeling occupied.

I walked around this area today and was really surprised just how much development is going on there right now.

  • AK

When’s that Teeter going to open?

  • JohnDC

I’m surprised the high rents they are asking for the neighborhood. I wonder what this will do to bloomingdale & eckington.

The building in the first photo is called Flats 130 at Constitution Square. These apartments are absolutely beautiful with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, hardwood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, and large balconies.

The community features three 10,000 square feet courtyards with fire pits and grilling areas, a two story fitness center, rooftop pool and terraces, a wi-fi lounge, conference center, and multi-media room. Garage parking is available as well as on-site Zipcar rental and the SmartBike bicycle sharing program. 24-hour concierge, lock-out service, and maintenance are available to all residents. Harris Teeter will be welcomed to he neighborhood in the beginning of December!

You can check out photos of the one and two bedroom models at http://www.facebook.com/flats130.

Please feel free to call the leasing office with any questions about the community, find out about our current leasing specials, or to schedule your personal tour at 202.682.2787. I am a leasing professional for the community and would love to help anyone who is looking for their new home :)
