U Street’s newest retail spot was looking good last weekend. I chatted briefly with coowner Erin Derge who also works on their eco friendly sustainable design clothing line called Revamp (including tailoring). Ginger Roots showcases a few artists/retailers featuring clothing, photos, jewelry, custom designs and more. Their business card sums up the shop nicely – Tailoring, Eco-Design, Local Artisan Boutique. While they are currently open Sun. from 1-6pm and Mon, Thurs, Fri, and Sat. from 12-7pm they will be having a grand opening Sept. 18th. It’s great to see U Street get another cool retail option.

A few more photos after the jump.

Oh my gosh. It is completely unrecognizable! Look at that ceiling!
Damn! Could be turned into a night club on the weekends.
Dislike. x10000000
Make it stop - who wrote the listing description for that house? What the hell does it...
Kristen and Erin are awesome people and amazing seamstresses. Best of luck to them. Please support this store!
Heck yes! I’ll definitely check out this store.
Good luck. You will need it in this economy.
Honestly though do they have enough items to sell to draw people in? Hard to say with those photos but if they are an indication they need more merchandise.
Ditto. They do plan on stocking more stuff, right? Because I wouldn’t make a trip in based on what you’ve shown in the photos.
Yes, it looks empty. But I will check out when I am in the neighborhhod.
All the best to Kristen and Erin. I know they will do exceptionally well in this economy or any. Im sad I missed the opening but I will be visiting their store very soon.
