When we spoke about Straits of Malaya closing at 1836 18th Street, NW a commenter mentioned a similar fate of Inti Peruvian restaurant located across the street at 1825 18th St. NW. Sadly, the news is true.

“Dear PoP,
I know there was a lot of chatter about the building at the corner of 16th and T St NW. Looks like they’re done with the renovation and it is for sale!”
Looks like the penthouse is going for $1,299,000. And you can see a virtual tour here.
So what do you think of the building, inside and out?

If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos or news please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best. I’m aware not everyone loves pets. But they bring me (and others) a lot of pleasure. It’s cool, hold tight, a new post is coming in a half hour, you can make it!

This rental is located at 410 Ridge St, NW:
The Craigslist ad says:
“Tree-lined Ridge Street hosts this fabulous basement 1 bedroom. This quaint apartment has central AC for those hot DC summers ! What a great location just 2 blocks to the Convention Center and 7th St/Mt Vernon Sq METRO. Walk downtown to experience DC citylife at its best, great restaurants, theatre, and night life. Neutral decor throughout, new carpet, newer appliances to include Dishwasher.”
Does $950 plus utilities sound about right?

“Dear PoP,
My mid-sized condo building is looking for a reliable snow removal company. Would you mind asking the community if they have any recommendations?”

“Dear PoP,
We’re wondering if any area residents know of and can recommend someone who appraises and purchases things like antique mantles. We’re thinking of removing a large one in our house that has a mirror and glass door cabinets. It’s a really nice piece and we may not end up parting with it, but we have no idea where to start a process like this to see if someone would buy and then remove it.”
Any suggestions? I’m thinking Good Wood on U Street might be a good spot. Maybe Brass Knob in Adams Morgan on 18th St, NW? Any others?

This condo is located at 1314 W St, NW:
The flier says:
“Beautiful 2 bed 1.5 bath condo in DC w/ marble floor entrance, hardwood floors, ceramic tile, granite counters, fireplace, stainless steel appliances. Sold as is.”
You can find more info here and photos here.
This 2 bed/1.5 bath is going for $322,900 ($212 monthly condo fee). This seems like a really good deal – am I missing something?

“Dear PoP,
Any chance you can do a post on what area restaurants are open on Christmas Day? For the last few years, we’ve had to wander aimlessly around town peering in front doors and hoping we can find something.”
For me and my tribe we’ve been enjoying Christmas Day meals in Chinatown for generations. I can’t be the one to break this tradition but for those looking for a bit more culinary diversity – what other restaurants will be open on Christmas Day?
You can see a list of some of our favorite Chinese restaurants here.

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?
Is this a full work week or do most have Friday off? Monday off?

The folks behind the Ugly Mug are continuing to expand their empire. Most recently they took over the old Alliance space and opened up District 2 Bar and Grille at 3238 Wisconsin Avenue, NW.
Now they are taking over the old Uptown Cathay space at 5016 Connecticut Ave, NW (across from Politics and Prose). The liquor license application says the new spot will be called Jake’s American Grille and will be a:
“New Restaurant, Serving American Bistro and Cuisine, televisions, music.
Seating Capacity is 50. Total occupancy load 50, including Sidewalk Café seats – 10.”
