And this is actually awesome as well:

From a distance there is really nothing of note about this Dupont patio. But if you take a closer look, well, it might look nice from the patio but from the street – I just feel like I’m getting mooned:

I’ve been fascinated by this Georgetown house for years. At this point, I can’t wait for it to go on sale so we can get a look at the inside. I’m guessing it’ll go for $2 million minimum.

At long last the Mt. Pleasant Temporium opens tomorrow at 3068 Mt. Pleasant St. NW.
From an email:
The Mt. Pleasant Temporium is a temporary, pop-up retailer coming to Mt. Pleasant St. NW for 24 consecutive days from February 18 through March 13. The project, located at 3068 Mt. Pleasant St. NW, is part of the District’s new Temporary Urbanism initiative and features handmade goods for sale from 30 local, independent crafters and artists.
The Temporium’s special events schedule includes autobiographical and theatrical storytelling, crafting, book readings, and live music. All events are free and open to the public. Opening weekend includes a reception on Friday, Feb. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m.
The theme of the Mt. Pleasant Temporium is storytelling, which is woven throughout the retail aspect of the shop to give visitors a truly engaging experience with the products for sale and the stories behind the artists who made them. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in the theme by leaving their own handwritten stories in the Temporium’s storefront window installation, created by local artists Sean Hennessey and Rania Hassan.

“Dear PoP,
Walked by the Tivoli theater yesterday to see guys inside jackhammering up the floor. The permits in the window weren’t really clear to me and none of the workmen spoke much English, but one guy said (I think) it was going to be a new restaurant called “Zebra Girl.” Do you know any more?
Also, perhaps a question for the crowd – I think everyone agrees it was great that the original Tivoli was saved, but the old ticket-booth is now not only an impediment blocking what could be a great restaurant/bar space, but a truly disgusting open-air toilet.
What are the chances that- A. Some creative architect could design a way to remove or change it to open it up, maybe install something completely new and modern while still keeping the historical integrity – (think the pyramid at the Louvre) and B. – Whoever has the say-so would say yes?”
That would be a Z Burger that is moving into the space. Though Zebra girl could be a fun place as well!
And I think the question about the old ticket booth is a great one. What do you guys think can/should be done with that space and how can we get it done?

Thanks to a reader for sending. I’ll be sure to post updated photos as progress is reached.
If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos or news please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best.

This rental is located at 2618 Sherman Ave, NW:
The Craigslist ad says:
“Cozy 1 bedroom apartment walking distance to U street and Howard University. The apartment has free rear parking. Electricity is not included. No cats and dogs permitted.”
$1050 sound right for this one bedroom?

“Dear PoP,
I have a question that I’d like to pose to people that I am really unsure of the answer on: Is it possible, and if so, how are public housing projects moved? I was having a discussion with some friends about the development of the O Street Market and someone brought up the large amount of public housing around the development. One of my friends was sure that all that stuff would just be moved once development picked up, but I am pretty sure that it is not that easy. I am not trying to get into the debate of whether or not it SHOULD be moved (definitely a controversial topic), but rather I’m curious as to whether there is a precedent for moving public housing. It’s not secret that public housing was strategically located in less desirable parts of the city, but in the last decade or two many of those areas have dramatically changed. To my knowledge, none of the housing has been moved. Do you have any background knowledge on this or a resource you could point me to?”
I think we once talked about the amazing transformation at Ellen Wilson Pl, SE:
I think it used to be a very rough area that received a federal grant and got these awesome mixed income homes. That’s the only example I’ve heard of.

From MPD:
“On Tuesday, February 15, at 2:25 PM, a citizen, who was house sitting for a friend, returned to her home in the 1700 block of U St. NW, and found a suspect in her home. The suspect fled out of the back door and was apprehended a short distance later. The suspect was placed under arrest for Burglary 2. The Third District Detective’s office continues with the investigation.”
What a terrifying situation – awesome work that MPD caught the guy!
If you’ll excuse my language – I think I would shit myself if I came home and found a burglar in my house. I’d like to think I’d grab a golf club and start swinging but I suspect I might accidental fall on the floor and curl up in the fetal position mumbling incoherently…

Holy cow. Here’s what the building looked like back in Nov. ’10.

Glad to see it back to life but dang that’s bright!

Couple more shots after the jump. (more…)

Bier Baron is located in the old Brickskeller’s space at 1523 22nd St NW. Many folks weren’t too sad when we heard Brickskeller had sold in Dec. ’10. Anyone check out the new space yet? Is it an improvement?

Even though we confirmed it yesterday, it is still really bizarre to see Toledo Lounge closed at 2435 18th St. NW in Adams Morgan.
Moment of silence.
