Friday Question of the Day – Where are the Best Post 7pm Happy Hour Deals?

Photo by PoPville flickr user Vileinist

“Dear PoP,

I have a very important question for your readers. What restaurants/bars in DC have happy hour specials that extend beyond the usual 4-7pm M-F timeframes? I tend to work until 6:30 or 7pm on most weeknights and end up missing happy hour entirely at most places. It’s such a bummer. I know that H St. Country Club runs their happy hour until 8pm, 1905 until 7:30 and The Heights offers their specials from 4-7 on the weekends as well. Are there other options as well?”

If you have recommendations please say what neighborhood the bar is in as well. Are there any post 8pm happy hours? Who has the latest happy hour in town?

Also are there any really good happy hours that go beyond $1 off drafts and wine? Who has the really good deals in general? I’m thinking like back when Lucky Bar has $1 Bud specials on Thursdays. Also does anyone know of any good food happy hour specials as well.

Judging Buildings – Future Jack Rose

The plywood has finally come down from the future Jack Rose at 2007 18th St, NW. I can’t wait to see the inside.

But from the outside, how do you think the building turned out? You like the copper?

What do you think about the big advertisement on the side?

Dear PoPville – Getting a Treebox Fence

“Dear PoP,

Last summer the flowers and other plants in my treebox didn’t fare so well (mostly from sidewalk traffic and the like). I’d like to get a nice low fence for the treebox like others that I’ve seen in the city, but I have no idea where to start. Can anyone provide recommendations of companies that do this type of work? What should I expect as far as
cost? (It’d be about 12ft by 3ft.) Do I need to get permission from the city?”

Anyone know how this works? Do you have to get permission from the city or can you just put one in?

Dear PoPville – Should the Columbia Heights Fountain be Protected?

fountain in Silver Spring

“Dear PoP,

Though I had issues with the Columbia Heights fountain in the beginning (because A. it’s a barren lot all winter long and B. I feel like a DC artist should have designed it), it’s nice to see people enjoying a frozen yogurt on the wall while children play in the water on a nice sunny day (just hope the water is sufficiently chlorinated). Now I don’t want to sound like a grumpy old man but my concern is with the team of teenagers that are forever skateboarding on it. Those are, in fact, porcelain tiles, and underneath those grates are the fountain heads. Once the tiles or fountain heads break and once the stone walls are chipped I can’t imagine the city replacing them any time soon. Here is a photo of the very similar fountain in Silver Spring- only difference it has this small chain fence going around it. Granted a skateboarder could easily move something like that, but combined with those metal bumpers on the steps maybe it could deter them? At least while the fountain is off.”

Do you guys think when the fountain is turned off that it needs to be protected like the one above?
