Just let me know why you want to go in the comments and I’ll pick a winner on Monday.

Great news for Park View and Petworth residents. The old Huron Pharmacy space (long vacant) at 3628 Georgia Ave, NW has been leased.
I don’t have a lot of details but I’m told it will be:
“2 floors, super comfy, neighborhood bar with a 1400 sq ft outdoor space in the rear. Comfort food, comfort atmosphere, comfortable prices.”
While they are shooting for a Fall opening, a lot is contingent on introducing themselves to the neighborhood/ANC meetings as well as acquiring the proper licenses and permits.
But the fact that the space has been leased is huge news! The vacant properties of Georgia Avenue are slowing falling one by one. More details when they become available.
This is the space between Manny & Olga’s and The Blue Banana and Looking Glass Lounge a couple blocks south of the Georgia Ave-Petworth metro:

Littering Enforcement Pilot Project
On May 1, 2011, MPD will launch a littering enforcement pilot in the Fourth Police District. Throughout May, MPD will issue warnings to violators as we work with community partners to educate the public about littering enforcement. Beginning June 1, 2011, anyone violating the city’s littering law in the Fourth District may be issued an actual ticket or subject to arrest. (D.C. Official Code § 8.801 et seq.)If an officer sees you intentionally or carelessly dropping rubbish, waste matter, refuse, garbage, trash, debris, dead animals or other discarded materials of every kind and description, on public space, in waterways, or on private property not under your control, you may receive a $75 ticket for littering. Failure to properly respond by following the instructions on the back of the ticket will result in additional penalties.
If you are issued a ticket for littering, you are required to provide an accurate name and address to the officer. If you refuse or fail to provide an accurate name and address, you can be arrested. Upon conviction, you will be fined an additional $100 to $250 by the Superior Court.

I stand by the fact that nothing tastes better on a 85 degree day except perhaps the Slushie’s cousin the Slushito (available at Estadio). These Slushies available at the Sunoco at 15th and U St, NW.
And the other great indicator is the return of the Columbia Heights Plaza fountains:

I always marvel at this house off 15th St, NW because of the wild glassed in balcony up top:

But as a result of always focusing up top I don’t think I’ve ever noticed this cool brick from their walkway:

This Adams Morgan house has long been a favorite of mine so I was psyched to see it got all fixed up. (It’s located at the corner of Summit and Quarry Rd, NW.

“Dear PoP,
Why did the zoo close early today?
there were a ton of people filing down into the woodley park metro earlier and a bunch of cops doing crowd control.”
@DCfireems tweeted (and I retweeted @PoPville):
“Update – 2900 blk Conn Av NW – MPD & National Zoo Police investigating
Update – stabbing – 2900 blk Connecticut av NW – EMS transporting – 1 teenage male – priority 1 – serious, potentially life-threatening”
NBCWashington reports:
They [MPD, DCFireems] found a teen stabbed in the chest, according to Fire and EMS. The teen was taken to Children’s National Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
As the zoo’s annual Easter Monday African-American Family Celebration ended at about 4 p.m., there was an altercation near the small mammal house on zoo grounds, and juveniles were removed from the property.

It’s been a while since we’ve had a judging back of rowhouses post – I think this one is pretty sweet. Maybe a deck or balcony would’ve been cool as well? Though it does look like it has a pretty cool green roof:

If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool with your pets name and neighborhood. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best.

“This is Noodles in Adams Morgan! I just adopted her from Homeward Trails and she is a love.”

“This is Satchel celebrating St. Patrick’s Day last month. He begged for green bacon but we couldn’t find some. He lives in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood.”

“Charlie submits himself as the official mascot of Fort Totten.”

“Dear PoP,
What are you supposed to do when someone’s car alarm goes off, on repeat, all night long??
The one in question is currently parked on 15th and T st NW and has been going off every 30 minutes since 2 am. Obviously preventing me from falling asleep for anything longer than 15 minute intervals.
any tips/ideas?? i am getting desperate.
it’s been going on for three days and the car already has two tickets.
We all have been calling the cops about the car, but the cops tell us they can’t really do anything!!!
so we are all very frustrated and don’t know how to make it stop.”
Ugh, this sounds brutal and extremely frustrating. Anyone have any success in dealing with a past situation like this?

Wow, not sure how I missed this news. A local newspaper reports:
“Modell’s Sporting Goods plans to set up shop at the mall in early June, filling 7,500 square feet of space for its second store in the District.”
Back in mid March we we learned that DSW Shoe warehouse would be coming to DC USA as well.
