On Friday for the FQotD I asked what retail you thought U Street was missing and in the comments a reader mentioned that they had heard that Teaism would be opening up a shop in the Moderno at 12th and U St, NW:

The Moderno located at 1939 12th Street NW (at U Street, NW)
I checked in with the folks at Teaism and they confirmed that they are indeed very interested in the U Street neighborhood. However at this moment no lease has been signed. I’m told, if things go well, we could hear some good news in about 3 months.
Specifically I was told by one of the co-owners:
“We love the neighborhood and we’re working diligently to secure a location.”
I did however, notice that the for lease sign had come down from the Moderno retail space…
Stay tuned for more info when it becomes available.

I’ve always loved this sculpture (previously featured) but I don’t remember it be surrounded but such a sweet garden in previous seasons. Nice. From Dupontish area.

The copper on this house is phenomenal. Hopefully it doesn’t become a victim of the recent copper thieves (leaving the neighborhood/street out intentionally.)

“Dear PoPville,
Yesterday I went to the dentist for the regular-clean up. I didn’t have any cavities!, but the dentist recommended me to go to an orthodontist to get braces; not that I have to, but just a recommendation (I know I have bad teeth). The thing is I’m in my 40′s, and although I would like for my teeth to look better, I’m kind of not feeling like spending the next 2 -3 ( ! ) years with some metal on my teeth. He explained about another method of doing this that takes longer to fix the problems, he himself used this last procedure recently (he is older than me) and told me that if he had to do it again, he would go with the braces because is faster.
Should I do it or not?”

“Dear PoPville,
I’ve always found solace in the goings-on of my fellow PoPvillians, so why should this time of need be any different? Over the weekend, my long-term girlfriend and I broke up. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a very amicable split and I’m pretty heartbroken. Among the many heartaches to confront is the fact that we’re both Columbia Heights residents, and practically neighbors. And over the course of our relationship, we’d come to frequent many neighborhood bars and restaurants together, even achieving coveted ‘regular’ status at a couple of them. So, aside from seeing her at the grocery store or gym, there’s the chance of running into each other when we’re both out-and-about. I don’t want the constant worry of an uncomfortable encounter to ‘ruin’ any of our favorite joints for either of us. Just wondered your and PoPville’s thoughts about how to handle this situation. Should we consider — for lack of a better term — a ‘joint custody agreement,’ or do I just have to suck it up and face the potential music whenever I want to grab a burger or a beer? Thanks.”
I’m very sorry to hear this. I’m afraid there’s no easy answer for this. I would take a break for a few weeks and maybe hit up some other spots across town until your wounds have begun to heal. Ultimately, I think you’ll just have to “suck it up” but hopefully by that point the possible potential encounter will be slightly less painful. Has anyone been in a similar situation? If so, what have you done?

“Dear PoP,
After a loooong wait by many young families in LeDroit/Shaw/Bloomingdale, the Park at LeDroit opened Friday, May 27, with little fanfare in time for kids and families to play Memorial Day weekend. The dog park and a few little things await completion, and signage and an opening ceremony are expected in the coming week, but the playground is now officially open.”
The park is located on the site of the former Gage-Eckington Elementary School at 2025 3rd Street, NW in LeDroit Park.
Thanks to Tim for sending the photos.
