From a NoMa BID press release:
“A-Deli Italian Food shop has signed a lease in NoMa, bringing delicious Italian hoagies and sandwiches to this rapidly growing neighborhood. A-Deli plans on opening this fall at 1300 Second Street, NE, across from the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel and the New York Avenue Metro Station.
A-Deli, which currently operates a location in Herndon, will offer breakfast and lunch featuring an Italian-American menu, offering diverse options such as lasagna, meatball and cheese sandwiches, Italian hoagies, and cheese steaks. The deli focuses on fresh, hot items and makes everything daily. Most items cost less than $7.00.
The privately owned deli chain was founded more than 10 years ago by Kawal Kapoor, and remains a family business. “We decided to come to NoMa because it’s the next emerging business center,” Kapoor said. “With all the new tenants moving in like the Department of Justice and NPR, we know there will be a need for more lunch options.” A-Deli will open its second location in the 777 SF space in NoMa; they plan to expand further in 2012. A-Deli joins The Perfect Pita and Five Guys on the west side of Second Street, NE.”

“Dear PoPville,
I’m trying to find a place in DC to watch the upcoming 2011 Rugby World Cup. Are you aware of any Bars that will be showing at least some of the games? Thanks!”
I would guess Touchdown at 1334 U St, NW will be showing it. Anyone else know who will be showing games?

“Dear PoPville,
I’ve been a resident of the District for about five years now, and although I think DC is awesome, I have recently been having a hankering to live overseas. I am a early 30′s single female, so I have no one else to worry about but me. My question to the residents of PoPville is, how do I go about finding a job overseas? Are there any organizations that could be recommended I apply to? Anyone have experience just packing up and moving abroad? Any suggestions would be appreciated?”

“Dear PoPville,
So I just got the unfortunate news that my office is moving from dc to tysons. I live in dc (right between the dupont and u street metro stops) and do not have a car. i’ve tried the metro/bus combination, but it takes about an hour to get out to tysons. Any tips from readers about making the commute? Any carpool or more direct bus options?
I really appreciate any tips/suggestions!”
Is slugging a good option?

Thanks to all who sent emails about this terrible incident.
“I live on the 500 block of M street NW and saw fire trucks and EMS vehicles all along my street yesterday in the late afternoon-early evening. There seemed to be a lot of activity, and pretty much across the street from my row house. I am hearing from some others in the neighborhood that there was an argument by the basketball courts that lead to the shooting, and the victim ran over to M street where he ultimately collapsed and died.”
Another reader writes:
“You probably have seen the reports of this shooting yesterday evening (around 7:30pm) near Dunbar. Lets not overlook that this occured at a playground with kids and teens all around. I even remarked to my wife on how many people were at the park a few minutes before this event. Once the shoots were fired everyone scattered, and the news reports all read no different than a 2am ally shooting! I just wanted to share.”

Back in Aug. 10 Bella Cafe opened up in the former Asmara space at 900 Florida Ave, NW (by the 9:30 Club). You can see their menu here. Any fans? Any fans just as a place to grab a drink?

Back in Jan. ’11 we saw that this long troubled property ( horse’s ass award nominee in Sept. ’10) at 12th and S St, NW was in violation of DC regulations. I was happy to see a whole slew of permits posted and construction on going. We’ve been monitoring this property since 2008.
