Reliable Auto Repairing, very cool. I wonder how old that sign is?

I’m always moved by all the flowers that are placed here on the anniversary of their death every year on Sept. 21. You can see a bit of background on the monument and incident here. The memorial is on Sheridan Circle near Embassy Row and Massachusetts Ave, NW.

They don’t get too much more quaint than this one from Georgetown. Looks like it coulda come off a movie set.

“The last six months on the road have been quite an adventure for our team. Sabor’a Street has been a dream realized for Jorge. After much consideration, we have decided to take a break from the streets of DC and give Lola a rest so we can explore other opportunities. We are so grateful for the amazing support and loyalty our Saboreros have shown us these past months, and hope to see y’all again very soon either in the truck or through another venture.”

“Dear PoPville,
I am looking for a financial advisor referral.
With the economic situation going on, I have stopped looking at my 401k, it is very depressing
I know everyone is in the same boat at this point. My problem is that I contribute a big portion of my salary every month in my 401k (there is no matching). My contribution get invested in different mutual funds portfolio that I (randomly) selected with not much knowledge of their financial status (thus my next question)I am wondering if it is smart to keep automatically withdrawing a big amount of my paycheck to put in my 401k which is losing value daily? Maybe I should direct deposit the money after taxes to my saving account for emergency fund?
I also believe that I need a financial adviser to guide me on how to manage/invest my 401k.
I dont know any financial advisor with good reputation (i.e. not trying to sell me some kind of insurance and reasonable fees),maybe popville reader have used one before an can make a suggestion? (price info if available will also be great)
Thanks in advance.”

“Dear PoPville,
Several of our neighbors are at our wits end. We have a major building effort going on at a house on 1400 Block of A Street SE. Numerous neighbors have expressed calling and sending email to city officials to express concern regarding the builder’s compliance to building code / permit requirements but have not gotten any responses. Construction activities go on every day of the week including Sundays. The owner and the construction crew continue to park illegally behind the property and block several residents on either side of the alley from being able to enter their garages.
We would like your help to get DCRA and Parking Police to investigate and do the following:
1) Confirm that the construction efforts have the proper permits
2) Confirm that the construction is in accordance with building codes
3) Stop construction during Sundays
4) Increased monitoring of illegally parked vehicles in the alley
I’d be curious to hear from other people who have dealt with similar issues. How did you get it done?
Thanks,Neighbors on the 1400 block of A Street and East Capitol St SE”
I have found DCRA to be extremely responsive on twitter. They can also be reached via email dcra@dc.gov and Phone: (202) 442-4400.

Sam Fitz is a Certified Cicerone® and the Beer Director at Meridian Pint and Smoke & Barrel. Read Sam’s take on Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier here.
California is one great place to take a beer trip. Northern California, one of the epicenters from which microbrews emerged in the early 70’s, was arguably the hotbed for the beginning of American craft beer. Sierra Nevada and the revived Anchor Brewery paved the way for American entrepreneurs to jump headfirst into a new world of quality brew. Today many of the world’s finest breweries are located in and around the Bay Area, and the beer culture there is largely unmatched across the globe.
Southern California, a later entrant into the craft beer scene, has come a long way in the past two decades and has started to rival its northern neighbor. The Stone Brewing Company was founded in 1996 and, in a remarkably short time, helped spawn a craft revolution in So Cal. They not only made great beer, but they also established a distributorship to sell the goods of their fellow microbrewers and spread the craft gospel. Now, it would take weeks, maybe months, to tour all of the fine breweries in the south of California.
Incorporating both of these beer destinations into one trip is a daunting task, but at least you can hurry up the 101, skipping the largely open and beer-barren landscape between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Wrong! Sitting on the side of the 101 in Paso Robles, looking like a giant barn in the middle of farmland, is a true gem: the Firestone Walker Brewing Company.
Continues after the jump. (more…)
