Heritage India Releases Statement About Sunday’s Shooting/Stabbing Incident

Heritage India, 1337 Connecticut Ave., NW, released a statement today about Sunday’s shooting/stabbings in Dupont Circle. From Heritage India:

“Heritage India extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Jhonte Coleman. We wish a quick and healthful recovery for the others who were injured following a private party on Nov. 27.

Heritage India is proud to be among Washington’s world-class restaurants, offering guests from around the city, country and the world a memorable fine-dining experience. Heritage India often hosts wedding receptions, businesspeople, government officials, foreign diplomats and other dignitaries for large lunch and dinner banquets.

Located in one of Washington’s premier nightlife areas, Heritage India Dupont Circle is an attractive venue for private after-hours events on weekend nights.

On Nov. 27, two patrons at a private party began to fight and security staff immediately escorted both men off the premises.

With tension remaining in the venue, management decided to shut down the event immediately. Music was turned off, lights were turned on and guests were asked to leave.

As patrons were exiting, a person outside of Heritage India shouted that there had been a stabbing on the street.

Heritage India staff immediately called 911 and security began an emergency-response lockdown. At this point, only the security officers, event promoters and restaurant staff were inside the restaurant.

The alleged stabbing victim was leaning against the main door of the restaurant and security brought him inside to render medical aid.

Contrary to published reports, the stabbing did not occur inside Heritage India.

Heritage India is reviewing its contracting procedures for private events and is prepared to participate in a constructive dialog with police and city officials to promote a safe, hospitable environment for nightlife activities.”

Dear PoPville – Have Folks Moved into the building at 4th and Florida Ave, NW?

“Dear PoPville,

Apologies for the terrible picture, I was stopped at a red light, in the dark, at a distance. This is the property right at 4th & Florida NW, just off Rhode Island Ave that was recently renovated, but then nothing happened to it for the last 18 plus months, give or take. It’s kind of a neat property on a triangle corner that I’ve always thought had a lot of potential. Last night (Thurs Nov 17) I saw lights on on the second floor and bodies moving around. I walk or drive by that property every day and cannot ever recall seeing movement or lights on since the renovation was done. Do you or readers have any idea what might be happening to with that place? From what I could tell in my brief 34 seconds to get a glimpse that second floor was just white walls and empty space, nothing fancy.”

Anyone know if folks have started moving in? You can see what it looked like when the scaffolding came down in March 2010 here.

Have You Seen My Stolen Bike? Vol. 7

“Dear PoPville,

My bike was stolen on Monday, November 21 near the corner of Nebraska and Massachussetts Ave. It’s a Trek 4300 mountain bike, Women’s Specific Design. It’s silver gray with thorn-like details. There are water bottle and tire pump holders, spoke lights, head and tail lights, and odometer wiring. It was locked with a 5/8″ thick Kryptonite flex combo cable and a silver gray Trek helmet.”

If you think you may have seen the bike please email lauralynn63@hotmail.com or leave a tip in the comments.

Dear PoPville – Cacao Closed in Cleveland Park?

“Dear PoPville,

Have you received any news on Cacao in Cleveland Park possibly closing? I was in the area running errands and was looking forward to some mediocre macarons but when I arrived at the shop it was completely dark and almost bare. I was just curious if you knew anything about their situation.”

Back in July ’10 the Cacao chocolate shop announced it was coming to the old Cold Stone Creamery space at at 3508 Connecticut Ave, NW in Cleveland Park. The store has been closed for a couple of weeks now and there was some chatter on the CP listserv that they were just gonna replace some kitchen equipment. However, keeping my eye on the space the last couple of weeks, I’m thinking that is not very likely. They’ve removed everything from the shop (see photo below) and also removed the menu from their front window. Additionally their Web site has been taken down “to perform site maintenance”. But maybe that’s a good sign that the Web site has not disappeared completely. I’ve sent an inquiry to try and get more info.

Were there any fans?

I Guess This is One Way to Kill Time Waiting for Your Train…

I was pretty surprised to see this set up at Union Station. I could understand the old Best Buy kiosks where you could buy a new set of headphones but this just seems crazy to me. I guess if your train is delayed 6 hours but can you imagine a scenario in which someone would shop at a Kohl’s department store kiosk?
