EatsPlace, to host pop-up restaurants and a marketplace, Hoping to Come to Georgia Ave

EatsPlace’s mission is to be an evolving creative enterprise that lives, breathes, and changes according to what’s in season, what chefs are dreaming up and what neighbors crave. We’ll be located on Georgia Avenue in the Parkview/Petworth area of Washington DC. We promote good eating, food education and slow food business development through:

(1) Pop-uppery: EatsPlace will be a dedicated dining space that allows guest chefs to have residencies and pop-up their restaurants. EatsPlace will have a new restaurant popping up every month or so, but don’t worry your favorites will return for encore performances, or we’ll help them open up their own place!

(2) Shared Community Commercial Kitchen: EatsPlace will rent out its fully licensed commercial kitchen to local caterers and food producers to allow them to make and sell their food at food carts, farmers markets, grocery stores and to you.

(3) Marketplace: EatsPlace will stock both food and food-related supplies. You will be able to buy foods prepared in-house, from pickles to pasta to complete prepared meals. Shop here for weekly provisions or daily bread and support local culinary entrepreneurs. Our community kitchen users will be able to sell their products at the EatsPlace marketplace as well. All kinds of foods, sauces, sausages and baked goods are prepared on site and sold under the same roof. It doesn’t get any more local than that.

(4) Education: EatsPlace will host events such as cooking classes, tasting courses, skill-share workshops and other community activities. We will also offer career-building courses like food law, food packaging 101, and trade show secrets revealed.

Raising money here will show our other investors that the community wants a place to celebrate food. We’ve got the largest piece of the pie, the property, but we still have to convert the space and build it up and out. Your much appreciated contribution will help us build out and purchase equipment for production, including prep tables, a food processor, a mixer, a fryer and ranges for culinary roamings, and shelving and walk-in cooling to store everybody’s delicious creations, as well as purchase initial supplies and ingredients.
