Leftbank Closing Saturday in Adams Morgan

March 5th, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Coming and Going, Restaurants - Adams Morgan | 19 Comments »

leftbank

Washington Business Journal reported the news yesterday:

“Adams Morgan nightspot Leftbank will close its doors on Saturday.

When reached by email, manager Gaye Gunes said the business has been sold, and the space will reopen as a new restaurant. No details on the new spot were immediately available.”

Leftbank was located at 2424 18th St., NW. I’ll be sure to update when more info becomes available about the new restaurant. Were there any fans of Leftbank out there?

Habana Village is located at 1834 Columbia Road, NW. In addition to the restaurant they also have salsa lessons. But I’m curious about the food. Any must try dishes?

Bukom Cafe is located at 2442 18th Street, NW. I know they have great live music here from time to time but I never realized that they are a restaurant as well. Has anyone eaten here? Recommend any dishes? Or is it best to just go for drinks and music?

Locolat Now Serving Beer and Wine

January 26th, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Restaurants - Adams Morgan | 23 Comments »

IMG_2148

Back in August I mentioned that Locolat Cafe (18th and Florida Ave, NW) had applied for a liquor license. Looks like they got it! So it got me thinking about Belgian beer. Personally I love Stella, Leffe and Hoegarden. A friend of mine loathes Stella. If I had to pick an absolute favorite I’d vote Hoegarden. I’m wondering if there are other haters of Stella? And in general what is your favorite Belgian beer?

Judging Restaurants/Bookstores – Potter’s House

January 14th, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Bars, Restaurants - Adams Morgan | 8 Comments »

DSCN2245

Potter’s House is located at 1658 Columbia Road NW. We took a look back in August 2008. A reader recently writes:

“This past Saturday I walked down to Tryst to do some reading and could not find a single seat – understandable since it’s a nice location to have a drink, people watch, and socialize. After doing two “laps” around trying to find a seat, I eventually left and started my cold walk back home. One my way, I passed The Potter’s House on Columbia Rd., and figured, why not, I’ll give it a try. I’m really glad I did! There are no baristas and it’s not quite the “scene” that Tryst is, but it’s warm, relatively empty, clean, and cozy.”

Anyone other fans out there?

Well this is exciting news for Adams Morgan. There has been a lot of lamenting about closed storefronts on 18th Street, so it’s nice to see some new businesses going in. It will be located at 2204 18th Street, NW next to the clothing store Shake Your Booty. Here’s to hoping they have good bagels!

Judging Restaurants – Sawah Diner

December 17th, 2009 | By Prince Of Petworth in Restaurants - Adams Morgan | 10 Comments »

IMG_1328

I guess I’m on a bit of a Diner kick lately. We briefly looked at this spot back when they opened in July at 2222 18th St., NW. At the time a few folks had really good experiences. Now that they’ve been open for a while I’m wondering if more folks have checked them out? Everytime I walk by it doesn’t seem to be too crowded which surprised me. Any regulars out there?

Tim Carman from City Paper’s Young and Hungry blog did some digging and found a quote from the owner:

“New establishment is going to be a new American restaurant called Savour and a lounge called Sutra. I have an executive chef from the Phoenix Park Hotel in D.C. who is on board who will be making new American cuisine. He is Vietnamese so it should be a nice fusion of American and Asian cuisine.”

Carman also says the new spot is scheduled to open Friday.

El Tamarindo is located at 1785 Florida Ave, NW. I know winter is coming up but I think if this section of Florida Ave. get some outdoor seating it will really improve the overall feel of the block. They are only applying for a spot to seat 14 people. Looking forward to it!

Piccante Pizza is now open at 2120 18th Street, NW in Adams Morgan. I walked by in the late morning as the place was opening up so I didn’t get to try the pizza but the space, while small, looks pretty cool. Anyone happen to try the pizza yet?

Peking Garden is located at 2008 18th St NW. In the Judging Restaurants feature I haven’t heard any really good buzz about a Chinese restaurant since we discussed the Great Wall Szechuan House last November. So how’s Peking Garden?

Piccante Pizza is coming to 2120 18th Street in Adams Morgan. 18th Street is a pretty competitive pizza spot with over a half dozen spots already. It’ll be interesting to see if this spot can differentiate itself from the others. But look how happy it’ll make you:

Locolat Cafe Applies for Alcohol License

August 25th, 2009 | By Prince Of Petworth in Neighborhoods - Adams Morgan, Restaurants, Restaurants - Adams Morgan, coffee | 17 Comments »

DSCN2004

We’ve judged Locolat Cafe, located at 18th and Florida Ave, in the past.

DSCN2005

I thought it was interesting that they’ve applied for an alcohol license. The application says that they’ll have:

“Sandwiches, savory waffles, quiches, desserts, chocolates and brunch.”

Sounds like you’ll soon be able to get some mimosas and bloody marys with brunch. I definitely support that. Incidentally what’s a Belgian coffee?
