I know the above photo is not a bloody mary but I love that shot. Anyway, the post asking about Wonderland’s free waffles got me thinking. This is a question I often ask my friends but have never posed to PoPville in general. Where are the best Bloody Mary’s in town? I’ve heard many folks mention The Heights?

Judging Brunch – Wonderland

February 18th, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Brunch, Restaurants - Columbia Heights | 9 Comments »

We are no strangers to discussing good brunch options. But I’ve walked by this sign at Wonderland (11th and Kenyon) many times and it occurred to me that I’ve never actually had brunch there. I’ve had some tasty quesadillas but never had the waffles. So I’m intrigued by the idea of free waffles. How are they? How’s the brunch in general?

Polly’s Cafe – Thumbs Up or Down?

September 22nd, 2008 | By Prince Of Petworth in Bars, Brunch, Neighborhoods - U Street, Restaurants - U Street | No Comments »

Polly’s Cafe is located at 1342 U Street and was one of the earliest establishments to open on the now super popular block. So I’m long over due in asking this question. I have friends who love this place and who absolutely hate it. I like it as a bar and I had a killer grilled cheese sandwich but I do find the food a bit pricey for what you get. I also ordered a captain and coke that I’m fairly certain was a formaldehyde and coke (although they were kind enough to redo the order for me). I do dig the vibe of the place, very small and chill. I only wish the outdoor area were a bit larger. So what do you think, thumbs up or down?

What’s the Verdict on Ulah Bistro?

July 16th, 2008 | By Prince Of Petworth in Brunch, Neighborhoods - U Street, Restaurants, Restaurants - U Street | 23 Comments »

Ulah Bistro located at 1214 U Street always seems to be busy when I walk by. Has anyone checked it out yet?

Looks like they have a good 3 course dinner special Monday and Tuesday evenings for $29.95.  I’m intrigued by the mojito chicken.

Rumberos Get’s Outdoor Seating

I had seen that they applied for a permit a couple of weeks ago and was happy to see it went through so quickly. I’d say it improves the feel of this section of 14th Street 100%. I’m really glad this trend is catching on.

Lots of people I’ve spoken to have been pretty passionate about Creme located on U Street between 13th and 14th. And it certainly always seems to be jam packed. Actually it usually so crowded that I haven’t had a chance to eat there yet. So what’s the scoop is it great homestyle cooking? How’s the brunch?

As Promised – Red Derby Brunch Menu

April 15th, 2008 | By Prince Of Petworth in Bars, Brunch, Neighborhoods - Columbia Heights, Restaurants - Columbia Heights | 5 Comments »

I’m told the menu is still being tweaked a bit but it looks great to me. And just for the record I sat outside for over two hours Sat. night and did not encounter any unpleasantness, save for my own boring stories. The outdoor seating option is terrific. And remember for those that are fearful, there is a bouncer sitting right at the door should anything untoward happen. Now for the brunch options: Ed. note: mmm, tater tots and Red Derby is located at 14th and Quincy.

Derby Brunch:
Multigrain Egg Sandwich with tater tots
Breakfast Burrito
Whole Wheat French toast sticks with maple syrup
Morning Burger (our burger served with a sunny side over fried egg) and tater tots
BLT on multigrain served with tater tots
Bagel, cream cheese & lox
Veggie bagel
Seasonal fruit basket
Assortment of mini-muffins
Southern-style biscuits with honey butter
Derby Libations:
Mimosas, Bloody Mary’s & Harvey Wallbangers – $2 with brunch, $4 without food
