The flier says:

“Rare opportunity! Incredibly unique Capitol Hill carriage house in impeccable condition! Very open, spacious two bedroom home. Dramatic LR ceiling, beautiful refinished hardwood floors throughout, countless windows providing exceptional light, CAC, FP, large shared patio. This home has everything! Easy pkg. Great chance to invest by hot H St. corridor!”

You can find more info here and photos here.

I think the “countless windows” claim is perhaps a bit dramatic but otherwise seems very cool. $549,000 sound right for this 2 bed/1 bath?

Judging Buildings – H St, NE Carriage House

I actually wanted to post this as a GDoN but I couldn’t find the listing. So free PoP t-shirt to the first person who can find the listing. It’s located behind H St, NE in what I thought was Linden Ct. I’m dying to see the inside!

What do you think of it from the outside?

House of the Day

I know these are a little bit beat up but what I can I say? I love carriage houses. I also think it’s interesting to compare the two. Note the two bay doors on the one on the left. I wonder if that’s how they originally looked?

Uh, er, uh, my ability to speak (write) escapes me at the moment. Holy cow, that is a killer carriage house. I’ve featured it before just from the outside but I had no idea the inside and garden were so wild. It’s funny I was going to Re-PoP this carriage house this week because I was going through carriage house withdrawal and in a random search it came up for sale. It’s yours for $3,995,000.

From the Files of Crazy Crap You Find in Alleys

At first I was just checking out a carriage house in a Bloomingdale Alley but then I stumbled upon this sight. Perhaps this could be the craziest caption contest ever? Notice the flamingo there in the bottom left corner as well…

If this inspires any crazy captions I’ll be glad to pick a bonus winner for this week.

Judging Carriage Houses

While we’re on the subject of carriage houses, I thought these were a couple of interesting examples. These are both from alleys in Capitol Hill. Do you think the addition of windows works on this one:

How ’bout this one (not sure if it was ever technically a carriage house…):

This carriage house is located at 210 10th Street, SE:

The flier says:

“Seductive, secluded, surrounded, surreal. .. yep all those are usuable. The garish baths are elaborate, sensual & not your usual shower baths, the stairs have bronze railings, Catwaba stone wall the surrounds and stairs. .. Venetian Crystal, handwrought palladium doorways. .. for one or two persons or more intimately.”

You can find more info here and an amazing virtual tour here.

The reader writes:

“ok, here is a completely insane carriage house. I looked at the virtual tour and cannot believe this place is for real. They certainly didn’t do the usual “staging” to make the place bland enough for potential buyers to see themselves in it.”

This virtual tour left me speechless. I’ve been doing these ‘Good Deal or Not?’ posts for a while, but this one really blew me away. Parts of it are definitely a bit insane. Thanks again to the reader for sending it in. It’s yours for $400,000. How long do you think it’ll last and what’s your favorite part of the house?

House of the Day

This great carriage house is from the brand new Bloomingdale Court. This is my favorite house from the group but I’m gonna show a couple more doors for Door of the Day (above).

Admiring Carriage Houses

It’s also been a while since I’ve spotted a (new to me) carriage house. Would this be considered a proper carriage house?

Admiring Architecture

IMG_0566

This was such a beautiful sight. I found it in the Woodland-Normanstone Terrace neighborhood not far from Woodley Park. I’m not sure if it is a proper carriage house. I was particularly taken with the blue roof and the extension to the main house.
