Ike pulled out the victory with 51% of the vote. It was a tough fight with the lead going back and forth between Ike and Dr. Dre. Now for 2010 I’m going to assemble a panel of 5 judges to select the winner. The polls proved far too easily manipulated. But as I’ve said before, all the contestants were great and brought many smiles to PoPville. Now one of the nice things about being the editor of this blog is that it entitles me certain prerogatives. I don’t often use them but in this case I will. I have decided to make an editor’s pick – coolest pet in popville as well. And I’m happy to bestow the editor’s pick to Dr. Dre:

After a contentious battle the three finalists have been selected. Voting for the overall winner will be open until Wed., 11:59 pm. I know there was some question as to voting irregularities. So I’m gonna keep a close watch over this poll. Should obvious irregularities emerge the finalist will be disqualified. Of course you can have friends and family vote but no programming votes. All the pets this year brought lots of joy to lots of people so thanks for entering. Good luck to the finalists. Let’s keep the vote honest!

Ike squeaked out a win over Oreo with 24% of the vote. Ike will face Calliope and the dog winner for the ultimate prize of Coolest Pet in PoPville on Monday. Dog voting continues until Friday night 11:59pm. There is a tight race between Dr. Dre, Oz, and Winston.

Calliope pulled out the victory over Cladius with a final tally of 39% of the vote. Calliope will face the winner of the Cat and Dog category next Monday for the overall Coolest Pet in PoPville. Cat voting is open until Wed. 11:59pm with a tight race between Oreo, Ike and Oliver though it’s always possible for an underdog to emerge. Dog voting is open until Friday 11:59pm with a super tight race between Dr. Dre and Oz. Congrats again to Calliope.

Well who would’ve guessed a little contest like this could create such controversy. There is some debate as to whether the Cat finalists poll is being manipulated or not. Please, please, please don’t use a computer program to flood the poll. Of course you can tell friends, family and colleagues to vote but let’s keep it legit. Anyway the cat poll is pretty close with Oreo, Ike, and Oliver all pretty close. Cat voting is open until Wed. 11:59pm. The “Other” poll is also pretty tight. Calliope, Cladius and Flash are pretty close as well. Voting for “other” ends tonight at 11:59 pm. Also, I just want to let folks know that shirts are only being made for the overall winner (not each category). The king of kings if you will.

The “other” category is having some fierce competition. At the moment Calliope (the bird) has a 300 vote lead over Flash (the rabbit) while Claudius (the guinea pig) is hanging in there in third place. “Other” voting is open until Friday 11:59pm. There were a lot of great cat entries but I had to pick five so here goes. Cat voting will be open until next Wed. night 11:59pm. Dog finalists will go up Friday.

As suspected chosing finalists was not an easy task. If I had this much trouble for the other category I dread selecting the cats and dog finalists… Anyway, you will vote a winner for each category and then the winners of each category will compete against each other for an overall winner. We got Archie last April when his previous owners turned him out in favor of two new dogs who didn’t like him. He lived outside, under porches and in storm drains, for over 8 months.
