The Craigslist ad says:

“Ideally located between Dupont Circle and Georgetown, Rock Creek Gardens entices you
With beautifully landscaped grounds and newly renovated lobby. The spacious apartment
Homes offer hardwood floors, renovated kitchens, and oversized closets.”

Do you think $1440 sounds reasonable for this location?

Simply Soles Closes in Columbia Heights Will Open New Store in Georgetown

February 23rd, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Coming and Going, Neighborhoods - Columbia Heights, Neighborhoods - Georgetown, Retail | 19 Comments »

Simply Soles was located at 1438 Park Road, NW. I always thought this was a tough location for a women’s shoe store. In March they will be opening up in a new location at 3222 M Street, NW in Georgetown. Owner Kassie Kempel writes:

“With retail being what it was in 2009 a lot of opportunities came up that I couldn’t ignore. I hated leaving Columbia Heights but I also couldn’t justify staying there and paying the same rent that I could get in G-town. Hopefully a great place will take over the CH location.”

Their Web site is a bit slow but if you wait it out you can see their menus here.

I thought this was a good looking gate from Georgetown. Though I did find the horse head oddly out of place…

I really liked the difference in the three styles from floor to floor. A pretty cool stand-alone from Georgetown.

This home is located at 1300 30th Street, NW:

The flier says:

“One of Georgetown’s finest historic properties on the corner of 30th and N St. Four bedroom three and a half bath with two fireplaces. Elegant formal living and dining room with original moldings and large south facing windows. Wood floors throughout the house with a view of the Washington Monument from the top floor. Flagstone courtyard with pond and separate entrance.”

You can find more info here and a virtual tour here.

This has to have one of the craziest bathrooms (half) that I’ve ever seen. But I think the feature I like best is the courtyard. Do you think this is worthy of the title House Porn? It’s yours for $2,195,000.

I thought this piece was super unusual. It’s located above the door of a sunken entrance in Georgetown.

Thanks to @FrenchTwistDC for the newest cupcake news. New York based Crumbs Bake Shop is coming to multiple DC area locations. Neighborhoods include Georgetown, Foggy Bottom, Cleveland Park & Rockville, MD. Exact locations have not been picked yet but as that info becomes available I’ll be sure to update. From their Web site:

Crumbs Bake Shop first opened its doors in March of 2003 on the Upper West Side of Manhattan by Mia & Jason Bauer. The menu is an irresistible blend of comfort-oriented classics and elegant baked goods, but the specialty of the house is the Crumbs Signature size cupcakes! With our more than 50 varieties baked fresh daily and a new cupcake of the week every Monday, each Crumbs Bake Shop is an oasis of wall to wall deliciousness. And now you can enjoy your favorite Crumbs treats in the comfort of your own home – just like Mom used to bake. Delivered straight to your front door, perfect for any occasion, without needing an occasion at all.

What the Helen of Troy is the City Tavern and Sign of the Indian King?

Well a quick google search hooked me up. Their Web site says:

“The City Tavern Club is a private social club located in the heart of Georgetown, 3206 M Street, NW, Washington, DC. The Club provides fine dining, elegantly appointed rooms for entertaining, popular member events and a diverse membership. City Tavern is also a top venue for private parties and meetings throughout the year. The historic Federal-Style clubhouse, acquired by Club founders in 1959, is one of oldest buildings in the nation’s capital, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Our membership is comprised of Washington professionals from all fields, including government, law, medicine, architecture, consulting and many others. The Indian King Society, or IKS, is chaired by younger members and organizes a variety of fun events. The Club maintains reciprocal relationships with over 100 clubs worldwide.”

You can read more history here. So how do I get invited to be a member…?

And while we’re on the topic, I’m just curious – what’s the most “exclusive” private club in DC?

Back in March I saw the Big Chair in Anacostia for the first time. And now I’ve finally seen the one at the Duke Ellington School at 35th and Reservoir Road. How many big chairs are there in the city?
