The Craigslist ad says:

“The Delano Apartments, 2745 29th Street, NW – 2BR $2450. Enjoy classic Art Deco charm with modern amenities in a bright, spacious 2 bedroom unit with great closet space: granite counters, maple cabinets, a dishwasher, and a separate dining area. On-site amenities include a valet dry-cleaning service, cable/high speed internet, a roof deck, a 24-7 fitness room, secure bike storage, and parking. The Delano is just a short walk to the Woodley Park Metro Station and Downtown via the Red Line, and it’s close to Cleveland Park, Adams Morgan, and DuPont Circle galleries, restaurants, and nightlife. Love the outdoors? Visit nearby Rock Creek Park and National Zoo. Sorry, no pets.

Parking discounts are available with immediate leasing! Are you a student? Ask about our student special!”

I’m intrigued by the student special. Does $2450 sound reasonable for a “huge 2 bedroom” in this location?

Depressing Mural in Woodley Park

March 3rd, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Neighborhoods - Woodley Park, murals | 8 Comments »

photo

This is unbelievable! A reader just sent in word and the photo above that the famous Marilyn Monroe Mural at the corner of Conn. and Calvert has been painted over.

I now believe the reader was mistaken. This looks to me like it is a different wall. I guess it’s still an interesting commentary…

Great New Barber (and Tues. Special) on Connecticut Ave.

December 2nd, 2009 | By Prince Of Petworth in Neighborhoods - Woodley Park, Retail | 10 Comments »

From time to time I get asked recommendations for good barbers in town. I recently stumbled upon this newish spot on the 3000 block of Connecticut Ave right across from the Zoo. While I’d like to think they gave me a pretty good hair cut what was best for me was the special they have every Tuesday – $10 haircuts! I haven’t had a haircut for $10 since the 80s.

Admiring Architecture

November 9th, 2009 | By Prince Of Petworth in Architecture, Carriage House, Neighborhoods - Woodley Park | 2 Comments »

This was such a beautiful sight. I found it in the Woodland-Normanstone Terrace neighborhood not far from Woodley Park. I’m not sure if it is a proper carriage house. I was particularly taken with the blue roof and the extension to the main house.

Crazy Protest Outside of Marriott in Woodley Park

November 8th, 2009 | By Prince Of Petworth in Neighborhoods - Woodley Park, signs | 34 Comments »

IMG_0572

Well this was an unpleasant scene on Woodley Road Sunday afternoon. I believe Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is in town. But man these are some vicious signs. As a Jew I can tell you they made me laugh because they were so absurd but I was really disturbed to see some children maybe 8 or 9 years old holding signs like this as well…

Dear PoP – Is there a Train Near Adams Morgan/Woodley Park?

September 28th, 2009 | By Prince Of Petworth in Dear PoP, Neighborhoods - Woodley Park, Transit | 14 Comments »

“Dear PoP,

Any ideas on why a train can sometimes be heard near Adams Morgam/Woodley? Where is this train??”

I asked a similar question back in May ‘07. At that time I inquired about hearing a train from my home in Petworth. I was told that I was “hearing trains on the track that runs along the Red Line metro track parallel to North Capitol and then along Blair to Silver Spring.”

Anyone know what train you can hear from Adams Morgan/Woodley Park? Is it the same one?

The Stanford in Washington Art Gallery, located at 2655 Connecticut Avenue, NW; is showing an exhibit on the drawings of Eric Carle. When I showed this tattoo from the children’s book, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, folks were remembering a few of their favorite children books. Eric Carle is behind the classic the Very Hungry Caterpillar. It’s free – Hours: 9:00

Judging Restaurants and Bars – Murphy’s

August 12th, 2009 | By Prince Of Petworth in Bars, Neighborhoods - Woodley Park, Restaurants, Restaurants - Chinatown/Penn Quarter, Restaurants - Woodley Park | 22 Comments »

Murphy’s is located at 2609 24th St NW. When I lived in Woodley Park this used to be one of my favorite spots. Recently I noticed lots of folks there during the day. So a couple of questions – is the food any good? Second, with Nanny O’Brien’s (in Cleveland Park) under new ownership, is Murphy’s the best Irish bar left in the city?

Judging New Homes (and a Modern Building Nearby)

This home on Cathedral Ave north of Connecticut Ave seems to be fairly new. While not perfect, I think it fits in rather nicely with some of the older homes. Do you think it fits in?

And I’m also wondering what you guys think of the box like structure below, found on the grounds of the Swiss Embassy. I think it looks kinda cool:

iPOH Asian Cuisine is located at 2625 Connecticut Ave. NW on the 2nd floor. The place looks pretty nice, you can see some photos here. This place is relatively new as I used to go to a take out Chinese place here back in the day. You can see their menu here. Anyone have a chance to check them out yet?

This is a cool house located at the intersection of Woodley Road and Klingle. It’s a bit unusual because I’ve never seen a roof deck on a house like this. It’s also got a great garden going on.

More info and phenomenal photos here.

Holy cow, I was so psyched to stumble past this one. At first I thought I just found a sweet HoTD and was overjoyed to see it for sale. I love getting to see the inside of places like this. Amazing. I think this is my favorite one yet. And it has a new price – $2,395,000! So what do you think of this house? I think it raises the bar for my House Porn picks…

Irony – Real Estate Firm Loses Lease

June 10th, 2009 | By Prince Of Petworth in Coming and Going, Neighborhoods - Woodley Park | 13 Comments »

Notice the sign in the front window. Long and Foster lost their lease in Woodley Park at the corner of Connecticut and Calvert. That is a prime location, hopefully something good goes in there. L&F fans don’t be too worried, they have a building across the street.
