First a Vapiano opened up at 623-625 H Street, NW. And now Pizza Bistro Med has opened up at 736 6th St NW. PQ Living notes that this spot used to be a Pho place. Fortunately a new Pho spot will be coming nearby to 608 H St, NW.
I was down there for the Chinese New Year and decided to try a slice. I’d say it’s perfectly fine for a take out option. I do like having the option for a quick slice. Couple more photos including menu and inside space after the jump. Read Full Post

The scuttlebutt from Dec. has been confirmed. A press release says that Pete’s second location will be located at 4940 Wisconsin Ave, NW at the corner of Fessenden (halfway between Tenleytown and Friendship Heights). The store will be 3,400 square feet and can seat up to 100 people. The space is expected to open in April and like the Columbia Heights location will serve wine and beer. In the warm weather there will be outdoor seating as well. Looks like a great spot.

This restaurant will be located at 2313 Wisconsin Ave, NW not too far from the bookstore up there. I’m guessing this is part of the same group that opened up an Angelico’s in Mt. Pleasant back in April.

Well, we’ve been monitoring this spot at 1522 14th Street, NW for a few months now. I’m happy to report that HomeMade Pizza Co will be giving out free pizza tomorrow. They also gave some out today but sadly I was too slow in getting the word out. I was able to check it out myself and have to say it’s a pretty unusual operation. I’ve never heard of getting pre-made pizza and then baking it at home. You can see their menu here.
They were giving out free medium pizzas and caesar salads today (and tomorrow 4 – 7 pm). Get ready to judge me – I ordered mine with pepperoni, onions and anchovies. Mmm. It was actually pretty good but if I’m gonna be honest, I prefer pizzas like Vace, Red Rocks, Pete’s and Moroni & Bros. over this one. It was pretty easy to make though – just put your oven to 425 and cook for 10-15 minutes:
If anyone else took advantage of the free pizza Tues. or does so on Wed. be sure to let me know what you think. They had slices of fresh cooked pizza, as well, to taste out front. Comet Ping Pong is located at 5037 Connecticut Ave. NW. Like many others I’ve heard lots of positive things about this place but last weekend was actually the first time I’ve ever walked by it. I’m eager to try the pizza. You can see their menu here. So in addition to the pizza how easy is it to get a game of ping pong?

Red Rocks (11th and Park) and Pete’s Apizza (14th and Irving) are two super popular pizza spots in Columbia Heights. Washingtonian broke the news on Red Rocks’ expansion yesterday:
“The beloved Columbia Heights restaurant RedRocks is opening a second location of its wood-oven-fire pizza joint. The owners just signed a lease on a space on the 900 block of King Street, right across the street from the Majestic.”
I was holding off writing about Pete’s Apizza because there are a few details still being wrapped up. But since word is spreading of pizza expansions I thought I’d share some scuttlebutt. While this is not 100% sealed yet I’m hearing that Pete’s would like to open two more locations. Speculation is that one could be in Clarendon and one on Wisconsin Ave. I’ll update with exact addresses as info becomes available.
I’m a fan of both spots but since we’re talking about them – I have to ask – do you have a favorite between the two?

Bistro Italiano is located at 320 D Street, NE not too far from Union Station. I love stumbling upon these tiny spots. Some folks from Yelp say the pizza is pretty good. Any fans out there? Besides the pizza how are the other options?

It was back in Jan. ‘08 that Manny & Olga’s first issued a press release about coming to Petworth. At the time they hoped to be open by “Summer 2008″. So I was shocked to walk by the old Hunger Stopper Restaurant at 3624 Georgia Ave. (a few storefronts south of Looking Glass Lounge) and noticed the following sign:
I’m not exactly sure what the “this location available for franchise” means. Are they going to build it first and then sell the franchise or vice versa? It does say coming soon though. You guys think this is a good addition to this section of Georgia Ave.? Remember The Green Room sports bar is still set to come nearby at 3632 Georgia Ave.
I call dibs on the Hunger Stopper sign!

Since Pizzeria Paradiso moved this summer from 2029 P Street, NW to 2003 P Street I’m wondering if anyone has checked out the new space? You can see their menu here. Worse, better or the same as the old location?

Congrats to the owners of Pete’s Apizza (14th and Irving by the Columbia Heights metro). From an email:
“We just got word that Tom and Joel have been invited to the Treasury Department to attend a small business roundtable with President Obama, who is expected to mention Pete’s New Haven Style Apizza in a speech about federal efforts to increase lending to small businesses. Pete’s is being held up as an example of a business benefiting from an SBA program meant for small businesses.”

Piccante Pizza is now open at 2120 18th Street, NW in Adams Morgan. I walked by in the late morning as the place was opening up so I didn’t get to try the pizza but the space, while small, looks pretty cool. Anyone happen to try the pizza yet?

There is a sign for a new pizza spot to come to 1745 Connecticut Ave, NW. However, there was a stop work order on the front window? Anyone ever hear of this pizza spot before? Is it a chain? They are claiming New York style pizza which could fill a gap in the city’s pizza options.

“Red Rocks is against Flippin Pizza neck and neck for Washingtonian’s best pizza in washington competition. Never eaten at flippin so they could be perfectly good pizza, but it is important to note that they don’t actually have a store within the DC city limits, and they are a California-based chain operation who mobilized members of their club by offering them a free pizza if Flippin wins. So they are most likely getting votes from people outside the DC area. The voting ends tomorrow at noon, and they are ahead right now by a slim margin.
This isn’t to say that their efforts aren’t “fair” since all’s fair in pizza wars… but two can play at that game! So I was hoping you could plug Red Rocks and mobilize your readers to participate in the vote and maybe RR can pull it out.”
