I believe PoPtrekker videoographer, Intangible Arts, is a huge fan. Rita’s is located at 3322 Georgia Avenue, NW. They got some solid reviews on Yelp. One user recommends the Curry goat or chicken roti. Any other fans out there? Any recommendations on particular dishes?

Bistro Bistro is located at 1727 Connecticut Ave NW. We noted their grand opening back in June ‘09 (for some reason that post got messed up but the comments are still there).

I know folks are fond of the nearby Bistrot du Coin.

I think enough time has passed to properly judge Bistro Bistro. You can see their menus here. Any fans?

DSCF0333

Never a dull moment along H Street, NE. Because of the rapid changes I’ve recruited Nick and Amelia (of Cabin Fever video fame) to be an extra set of eyes and ears for me. Nick sends in photos of the newly opened Liberty Tree restaurant located at 1016 H Street, NE. You can see their menu here.

Stay tuned for lots more development news from H St, NE (including some fresh scuttlebutt).

Thai Restaurant Coming to New Jersey Ave and R Street, NW

March 14th, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Coming and Going, Restaurants - Shaw | 12 Comments »

IMG_3366

Thanks to a reader for the tip on this development. I’m a bit late on this one but folks have frequently asked me if I’d heard any news about this retail space that has been vacant for quite a while. Turns out it is run by a company called Beau Thai LLC.

After doing a google search I found the following from the Bloomingdale blog:

“She is aiming for an early March opening. She is a veteran in the Thai food business (and a relative of the operator of Thai X-Ing on Florida Avenue NW).

She will at first only have take-out service, as her zoning appears to be restricted to that for the time being (take-out was apparently grandfathered-in through prior use of the, very nice, building). She told me that what she really wants to do is a full-fledged sit-down Thai restaurant, however.”

Hopefully it opens soon. Lots of people love Thai X-ing on nearby Florida Avenue, NW so hopefully this space will offer similar quality.

Judging Restaurants – Mid City Deli

March 11th, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Restaurants - Logan Circle | 9 Comments »

IMG_3148

Mid City Deli is located at the corner of 14th and P Streets, NW. This is kinda funny as I’ve often admired the sign:

IMG_3149

But I had no idea they were actually open. While I’m obviously not expecting fine dining here, I’m just wondering if this is a good spot to grab an egg sandwich? Anyone ever stop by?

Judging Restaurants/Bars – Againn

March 10th, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Bars, Restaurants - Downtown | 16 Comments »

IMG_3142

I enjoyed reading yesterday’s judging of the recently opened Churckey/Birch & Barley spots on 14th. Another recently opened spot I’m curious about is Againn which we first heard about back in Sept. ‘09. Againn is located at 1099 New York Ave, NW. Their Web site says:

“A contemporary British Isles Bistro. A place to gather – your thoughts or with friends – and enjoy traditional British Isles pub cuisine presented in modern ware. Extensive single-malt Scotch, whisky, and beer selections, as well as fine wines, hand-crafted cocktails, and personal scotch lockers.”

You can see their menus here.

Any fans?

Judging Restaurants – Churchkey/Birch & Barley

March 9th, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Restaurants - Logan Circle | 39 Comments »

IMG_0213

These new spots opened up at 1337 14th Street, NW back in October. We took an early look here. But now that it’s been open for a while a reader wrote in requesting an update. She was curious about Birch & Barley (the restaurant) but I’m also interested in what you think of Churchkey upstairs (primarily a bar though food is also served). Both of these spaces seem to be packed every weekend. Have they lived up to the hype? Have you discovered a new favorite beer? What’s the best dish?

March 5th, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Coming and Going, Restaurants - Adams Morgan | 19 Comments »

leftbank

Washington Business Journal reported the news yesterday:

“Adams Morgan nightspot Leftbank will close its doors on Saturday.

When reached by email, manager Gaye Gunes said the business has been sold, and the space will reopen as a new restaurant. No details on the new spot were immediately available.”

Leftbank was located at 2424 18th St., NW. I’ll be sure to update when more info becomes available about the new restaurant. Were there any fans of Leftbank out there?

March 4th, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Restaurants - Foggy Bottom | 8 Comments »

Holy cow this is too good. Check out the video of the chef/magician here. At first I was just curious about the restaurant but now I’m dying to know if anyone has seen the magic. I’m sorry to say I was expecting Job from Arrested Development to join the video at any moment… Alright sorry I was fixating on the magician thing.

How is the food? You can see their menu here.

Primi Piatti is located at 2013 I St. NW.

Judging Restaurants – SEI

March 3rd, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Restaurants - Chinatown/Penn Quarter | 7 Comments »

IMG_2901

I guess I’m on a bit of an Asian theme for the restaurants this week… SEI is located at 444 7th Street, NW. It looks pretty sweet, if a bit high end. Is this a special occasion restaurant? Any must order dishes?

Tackle Box to Open Second Location in the old Waffle Shop (522 10th Street, NW)

March 2nd, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Coming and Going, Restaurants - Chinatown/Penn Quarter | 11 Comments »

DSCN2083

This is great timing as I was just asking a friend of mine what was going on with the old Waffle House located near E Street Cinema. Ed. Note: We saw An Education which I thought was terrific. I received an email update from the Downtown BID today with the news. They write:

Look for the old Waffle House (522 10th Street) to become the second DC location for Tackle Box, a Pure Hospitality Restaurant Group lobster shack. Located across from Ford’s Theatre (511 10th Street), the Waffle House offered steaks, grilled chicken and pork chops for breakfast, in addition to waffles, hot cakes and French toast. A different aroma will waft through the 10th Street corridor once Tackle Box, a casual sustainable seafood option, opens this fall and begins serving wood-grilled fish, crispy oysters, lobster rolls and other fare.

We judged the Georgetown location of Tackle Box here.

New (to Me) Maoz Vegetarian on M Street, NW

March 2nd, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Restaurants - Downtown | 16 Comments »

IMG_3031

All of our salads and sauces are freshly prepared every day using handpicked ingredients to assure superior quality and freshness.”

How long has this spot been open? Any fans?

Judging Restaurants – Nooshi

March 2nd, 2010 | By Prince Of Petworth in Restaurants - Downtown, Restaurants - Dupont Circle | 21 Comments »

IMG_3025

Nooshi is located at 1120 19th Street, NW. You can take a look at their menus here. Their Web site says:

“Nooshi is showcased along with the country cooking of Southeast Asia and decor of a mix of furniture and artifacts from China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. Stepping into this epicurean Asian retreat in the downtown district will transport you into the world of Eastern exotica.

The menu with a wide selection of regional Asian dishes as well as mouthwatering sushi is among the finest served in the District of Columbia area. Dishes are inventively light, low in fat, visually arresting and vividly flavored. Each dish is expertly prepared by the talented, skillful and innovative chefs using the freshest and top quality ingredients.”

So is this more of a lunch place for those that work nearby or is it a good spot for dinner as well? For the fans out there is it better for the sushi or the noodles?
