I believe PoPtrekker videoographer, Intangible Arts, is a huge fan. Rita’s is located at 3322 Georgia Avenue, NW. They got some solid reviews on Yelp. One user recommends the Curry goat or chicken roti. Any other fans out there? Any recommendations on particular dishes?

New Restaurant Coming To 3543 Georgia Ave + Nearby Senior Center Rising

Thanks to a reader for the heads up on the work going on at 3543 Georgia Ave. across from the EL Haynes charter school. Sadly, there was a bit of a language barrier in my brief chat with the workers out front. They did however confirm that a restaurant was going in. When I asked what type they said American but I’ll be sure to follow up when they open. And in nearby news it was nice to see the new Senior Center rising a half block to the south at Georgia and Newton:

Thanks to a reader for sending the photo. The reader writes:

“Happened this morning. The store is hardly ever open. It was a matter of time.”

We spoke about Hadiyah Cafe back in April and I have to agree it was truly bizarre the place never seemed to be open (even on weekends). Still, always sad to see destruction like this.

Manny & Olga’s Pizza Coming to Petworth/Park View

It was back in Jan. ‘08 that Manny & Olga’s first issued a press release about coming to Petworth. At the time they hoped to be open by “Summer 2008″. So I was shocked to walk by the old Hunger Stopper Restaurant at 3624 Georgia Ave. (a few storefronts south of Looking Glass Lounge) and noticed the following sign:

I’m not exactly sure what the “this location available for franchise” means. Are they going to build it first and then sell the franchise or vice versa? It does say coming soon though. You guys think this is a good addition to this section of Georgia Ave.? Remember The Green Room sports bar is still set to come nearby at 3632 Georgia Ave.

I call dibs on the Hunger Stopper sign!

Not sure how I missed this one but La Morenita Restaurant has opened up at 3539 Georgia Ave., NW. I was told they’ve been open for about 6 months. Anyone check them out yet? If so how do the pupusas rank?

WingHouse Opens Up at 715 Euclid Street, NW

I know folks love their wings so I thought you’d be happy to hear this news. They opened up in early August. This spot is kinda wild because it is on a block of residential homes, and this restaurant just pops up in the middle (close to Georgia Ave). Unfortunately I wasn’t hungry when I passed it but has anyone checked it out yet? If so, how do the wings rank?

PoP Preview – G2 Restaurant and Lounge

August 25th, 2009 | By Prince Of Petworth in Bars, Coming and Going, Neighborhoods - Park View, Restaurants, Restaurants - Park View | 23 Comments »

DSCN2026

Back in Dec. ‘08 we looked at G2 when it was a deli. There was always supposed to be a lounge upstairs, but various permitting issues delayed the opening. It appears that those issues have now been taken care of. I spoke with owner, Sampson who has owned the building 3 years, who told me that he hopes to open this coming Saturday. The downstairs, formerly a Blimpie’s before it was a deli, will now be a restaurant featuring a potpourri of cuisines including Mexican, Italian, Ethiopian and American fare. There will also be tvs where you can watch sporting events.

The upstairs will house the lounge. I think it looks pretty good.

In addition to a regular lounge there will special event evenings including Jazz night, Ethiopian music, Latino music, and an open mic night including comedy. I think this has the potential to be pretty sweet. I’d love to check out some Ethiopian music. I can see that being very, very cool.

Couple more photos of the lounge after the jump. Read Full Post

Coming and What’s Coming?

Coming to 1309 F Street, NW is FunXion, a new tavern to be serving “burgers, pizza, chicken and salads”. There could also be dancing, DJs and live bands:

And at 2608 Georgia Ave., the former home of ShowOff Apparel, the storefront has been fixed up:

There were a bunch of cards for MonaVie a company that:

“Introduced in January 2005, MonaVie develops and markets scientifically formulated, premium quality nutritional products, specifically for person-to-person distribution.”

What is “person-to-person distribution”? Is that like door to door sales? Anyone ever hear of MonaVie?
